walleye central

There isn't a stream anywhere into it- but they run a massive pump year round that would create a pretty good current/stream

Interesting...Would you have any idea what the energy costs might be to run such a pump annually? Why do they run the pump? Just curious.

they need to keep the water level at certain heights year round and the water level fluctuates daily due to material being removed

Running water is not a requirement of spawning, it's simply a better environment to keep the eggs oxygenated and keep silt off them. Walleyes will spawn in a Mick lake but it's highly unlikely any eggs will survive the dirty conditions. Some GP's are spring fed along with having pumps running to wash gravel as BD stated creating a "current" We own a gravel pit that I stocked with adult fish from a nearby area for the last 4 years and they are reproducing. Large privately owned gravel pits are the ticket to some giant fish if they are dug in a way that provides breaks and structure.

Side note- took a guy frogging today at my wife's grandfather pond- caught 30 GIANT bullfrogs. Those froglegs will be GOOD!!:)

Man that sounds tasty!! We saw a bunch of big ones on my farm down in IA, is there a season?? Never tried it before.

The season for bullfrogs are continuous- but you need a fishing license. And I believe you are allowed 12 per license.
