i had to stop for a hen pheasant, with 4 of the smallest chicks i have ever seen, maybe 4" tall

also we saw some TINY fawn tracks in the mud at the archery range

looks like its that time of year
 
Just in time for the first cutting of hay in most areas

I saw a little fawn this morning on my way home from fishing, it couldn't of been more than a few days old, it still had the rubber legs going.
 
I too saw some tiny fawn tracks yesterday while out for a jog. They were crossing the road near home and they were tiny!!! I hope the predators don't find the little fella.

Just for reference. A doe dropping a fawn on May 25 would have been bred on November 6, assuming a 200 day gestation.
 
Hey Danno, is 200 days an accurate estimate for gestation? I saw a small fawn last wednesday that was up and running with its mother. Probably a couple days old. That would put her as being bred around the end of the 3rd week in October. Thats interesting info...
 
I think 200 days is an average, but it could be plus or minus at least a couple of weeks for individuals.
 
Thanks for the info!! I got the camera in the woods right now!! I knew that dogs were 67 days but never knew about deer!
