Coming here to Iowa from N. Mich, I knew Se Iowa would be a wetter place,,but,,Man! The last 3 yrs have been non-stop three and four inch rains, flash flood warnings, almost too wet to cut the grass. Everyone tells me this is unusual, even for Iowa. I palnted some peach,Apricot, and Necterine trees. They took off good the first couple yrs but last spring two shot out leaves that promptly shriveled up. This spring I lost my Necterine. My neighbor has the same thing. There are no boreres, no sign of disease. I asked a orchard web-site and they confirmed what I suspected. My trees have drowned! Up in N. MI. too dry was always the norm. Hard to believe trees could drown. They said Stone Fruits need good drainage. I have clay soil. They said apple and Pear trees can take more wet, but I fear those are next. And what is in the forecast? More heavy rain next week! Crazy weather here in Iowa!!!

Plant fruit trees where there is some drainage if you can because even in normal years this heavy ground will hold a lot of water for a long time.

You can even create a bit of a mound and mix in some pea gravel and then mulch it good so that the tree is not in a "hole" so to speak.

Even corn is drowning right now though...:(
