archer2 - i had about 3 foot of slack or so. need to be able to turn and maneuver around. i may shorten that up a little bit!! and welcome to the site too!!
Whew!! Close one Muddy. I fell asleep once in a stand and woke up hanging from my safety belt (I've bought a harness since). Luckily I didn't come out of it head first but it did cause me to do a little soul searching.
DO NOT SIT IN A STAND WITHOUT A SAFETY RESTRAINT!!
PERIOD
I've been looking at those new safety vest/harness systems. Anyone try/have one?
I know people tell you (not you specificly) to do this and that but your fall restraint should be worn with no slack when in the sitting position. In the standing position this gives you ample room to move around. A 200 lb person falling three feet when being restrained by even a full body harness hits with enough force to break bones that's why most restraints are folded and sewn to act as shock absorbers in a fall. You were lucky the restraint you were using was a full body type and not a belt or even a chest type restraint. Again glad you wern't hurt. Bow sights are replacable.
