Week Long Saskatchewan Trip

We'll I'm sitting here in the lodge the last night of the trip and decided I'd make this post since I know several of you guys said you would be looking for it. We have been in Saskatchewan since the 24th in the middle part of the providence and are leaving in the morning. It's been a long haul and one that wears on you as a hunter with 430 am wake ups every day and late nights scouting for the next morning.

After a 21 hour ride up here, we arived at our lodge at 4 am and took a quick nap and was back awake at 530 to scout for the evening and next morning hunts. With no wind the first few days, it was tough. But a cold snap and new birds the last 4 days were burner shoots for us 5. We ended the week this morning with a 470 bird total. We shot 208 white geese (snows), 139 darks (127 canadas, which were ALL small geese besides 10 maybe - and 12 specklebellies), and 123 ducks (90% mallards). It was a fantastic trip, but we are all ready to be home!

Here are pictures from the trip.

When we were headed out, we swung over by the next pond to check for a sailer that we had sent out. I was already out of my waders, and the goose was in the water, soooo I just went in barefoot haha.

Overall it was a GREAT trip! But its time to get back in the truck for 21 hours and up in a tree 20 feet ASAP! :way:

Providence is in Rhode Island. Saskatchewan is a province......sorry had to.

Looks like you had some success, where in SK? Looks south. Your lodge looks like a farmhouse. Hope the people in SK treated you well.

I apologize, didn't know that saskguy! And we were south of the imperial forrest, but not by much. They definitely treated us very well!

No biggie, just busting your chops....I see it all the time.
I've never heard of the imperial forest...are you meaning you were somewhat close to the town of Imperial? If so, you were way south of here. Just by looking at the pics it looks very southern SK.

I guess I dont really know. One of the guys that was there before called it that, and I assumed he was right. Its the forrest area that would be north of the Quill Lakes. We were in that area all week.

Man what a bunch of great photos, I thought I was there with you guys hunting! :)

Congrats and thanks for sharing with us. :way:

I'm not a bird hunter but after seeing theese pics sure makes me want to start. Looks like a blast. What do you do with all them birds?

We ate a lot of the duck and specklebellies, and the rest went to the local food pantry for the native people and too some of the local farmers. In the provience of Saskatchewan you can donate your birds as long as you follow the rules with attached wing and license information while they havent been used. I can promise that not a single one of those went to waste :way:

congrats on the birds! what's a trip like that cost?

If your looking for a fully guided one and eating meals made by someone else, it would run you in the 3,000 plus range. We hunted seven days and cooked all of our meals at the bed and breakfast we stayed at. I think we made out all just under $1,300 or so.

Ahhh, now I know where you were, about 300 miles southeast of where I am now but a bit northeast of where I grew up. I blasted alot of speckles and snows as a kid, haven't shot a goose in at least 12 yrs. I'm guessing Imperial forest is a slang name for some timber b/c you were quite south of the big bush country, great waterfowl area though. Hope you considered your trip a success. How do you like our gas prices?

Now that is a ton of shooting. Holy mackerel.

I think i shot just shy of 13 boxes of shells....so 300+ rounds. all the rest of our guys were right around there too with 11-15 boxes.

Haha your gas prices were not fun. It was a 1.19 a leiter where we were so its was high, but not the highest around from what we saw...it was a sweet sight to see $100 fill up a truck when we got back into the states though instead of 1/2 tank haha. And we definitely considered it a success. The first two days it was warmer in Iowa than where we were and birds werent really around yet...but our last 4 we saw new birds every day and it made our trip big time!

All I can say is WOW!!!! That looks freakin awesome. Gonna need to get some info. from you on that trip, would love to get up there and lay the smack down like that.

That is a hunt you will remember forever, congrats.
