As much as a person feels comfortable pulling and shooting a lot. I think this is what you are asking?

It's fine have a good sharp broadhead and make good shots. I killed a doe 3 yrs ago. I was shooting 40 lbs and shot her at 35 yds and the arrow wgent all the way though.

For whitetail, I think anything over 75 is a little excessive.

No such thing as excessive if you were to ask me. A pass through is still a pass through, even if there is excessive energy left after doing so.
