What are you thoughts..

Just looking at the season dates and curious what your thoughts on the seasons are, from a stand point of how the birds are gunna be.

I think Fourth is gunna be tough!!! I think toms are gunna start grouping up. except a few. I'll save the rest of my thoughts untill later.

This will be my first year hunting with a bow for turkey, so I'm anxious to see what it's like in first season. I've heard a lot of good things about 1st season. 4th season being so late this year i think will make thing real tough, but people seem to still get turkeys during 4th. Just not me!

This year will not compare to any previous one because of the late start. 1st season will not be a true 1st season because of the late start... and so on down the line. One week difference in the Turkey woods is huge.

A weeks difference does make a huge difference. The first couple of seasons (1st and 2nd) will still be pretty good.
Usually around the end of second and into third they are henned up pretty bad. Turkeys can still be had but patience will kill more birds at this time. Anytime though is a great time to be in the woods.

Just need to hunt later in the morning or early afternoon after the hens go to nest.

First thing in the morning might be a little tough...but I can think of worse places to be then watching the sun come up!

And with your Field Report thread from this past fall, you'll no doubt see some awesome sunrises from where you'll be sittin' dbltree

I agree totally. I can only name a dozen times that I have been successful first thing in the morning at first light

but that usually is when they gobble the most. If they ever quit gobbling I will probably pack it up.
It is an awesome sound.

Dbl. BTW- Heard from Hags he is sending my order out tomorrow . He said he has four or five he was waiting for parts to come in for.

I am not sure how the season change will affect things, I love 1st season, usually just me, my brother and the birds and that always makes for a good hunt. As far as the later seasons go, I have become a huge fan of 4th season, have had good success that time of the year in IA, IL, and SD, it does take a bit more patience because the birds are often henned up early and they may be a bit call shy, but the challenge of 4th season has made it my favorite time of year to hunt.

Don't forget the mushrooms during 4th season.

"and ticks, and skeeters, and sweat, and chiggers and extra foliage... all the fun things that make me do it every year!

I really think that a lot of things will change. Youth season is gunna be crazy. If you got a kid to take out I think that this is gunna be your best chance to whack a bird. I dunno. after that I think that maybe 3rd season will be the best. BEcause to me it seems like the "old" first weekend of fourth was by far teh best weekend, birds on the nest and gobblers still pumped up, but they were always so pressured by then, so I think third is gunna be awesome.
