what are the Iowa laws about finding dead bucks in the woods? I mean, Can you just cut the head off and take it home.

Now I have to say, It's stinks so mad, I wouldn't want it in the van....But it is a nice one

?????????????????????????????????????????????

The proper thing to do is:
PRAY

Call a local officer you have confidence in.
He is supposed to investigate for any sign of a wrongful death.
If there is no evidence of any unlawful activity:
The deer shall be offered to the landowner.
If the landowner does not want it, it shall then be yours and the officer shall issue you a salvage tag.

Good luck

As Hunt Iowa says, pray that the officer you call is sympathetic. The one I called told me that salvage tags were only to be issued if the meat was fit for human consumption. They went on to say that the carcass is food and a good calcium for a wide variety of critters.
I wish you luck.

I asked a Woodbury county CO & a Monona county CO about this once. They said if you find a dead deer (no matter if it fresh or rotten) you are supposed to get a salvage tag & take the whole deer w/ you. What you do w/ the remains is your own problem - but you have to take the entire deer even if you are only after the antlers.

and if it's on state land????

and like I said,,,SMELLED

half eaten and reaken

Whats a nice one......150, 170 ,200 what are we talking about? Just curious. It makes a difference. I've heard stories the bigger they are, the less chance of getting the salvage tag.

ah, just a nice 8 pionter that would go 135, But a nice looking rack, If it was a 170 or more, I know that the DNR would take it, many of my friend have made the call only to see the rack cut off and waste of their time for doing so..They all say they would NEVER make that call again!

But how bout when your shed hunting or mushroom hunting and find a nice whole Rack???

or if you find a 200incher and have a legal hunting tag at the time???? and want to waste it on a dead head????

I think I'd waste tag on a fresh 200 incher!Even if I didn't shoot it, thats a once in a lifetime find. I wouldn't claim I got it, but you'd have to mount it. I'd call the DNR for a salvage tag on the 135er . ( But I went to high school with 2 of them)

Welp, I was just wondering what is wrote in the code book about it, When I trapped, I picked up everything and no one cared and I didn't have to worry about it and got cash for it too.

Just call your CO & ask him or her - "what if I found _____."
That's where you'll get your definite answer.
