What do you think about this....

I have always read and heard that a turkey hunter should practice calling well before season opener, but to leave the calls at home when scouting, I assumed that the reason was not to educate any birds before you could hunt them. I was out scouting the other day and had a fellow hunter in the timber with a yelper . He was walking and yelping every couple hundred yards Assumingly trying to get a gobbler to fire up. Is this a good Idea???????

Not something I care to do, educate them early. Heck, yesterday I felt bad out shedding where I plan to turkey hunt.

Not a good idea and I am pretty sure that it is in the regs that you can't call 10 days prior to season. I know IL runs it that way but have never considered it so haven't looked the regs up in IA.

That all sounds nice... but you will not convince me that calling prior to season hurts your odds at bagging a tom. I am not saying call the bird in... just yelping and locator calling does absolutely no harm. If your calling is that fake then you had better practice before the season

An animal with a brain the size of a grape is not going to associate your calling with a human..... now call him in a time or two and get busted and he is naturally going to be wary.....

Good luck... season is less than a week away...

Agreed Cornfed.

Yeah, I always say it is the smart ones that come to the calls

, they are not the brightest animal in the woods.

However,I still wouldn't call prior to my season. Why take a chance.

They are not hard to kill because they are smart, but due to being so stupid
