This clip is from the Drury Bros. I know they are selling an item but has anyone else heard this? I can only say that it sounds like a confused buck.. Remember, both these does were dead.
Im kind of scepticle on anything the Drury Brothers produce or make. Someone here will buy it and let us know how it works I am sure of it. I am sure it is worth a shot.
I have heard it during buck fights and when satellite bucks come in on buck/doe pairs in november. I'll have to check back on my video footage from 2004 to see if I got it on tape. I hade a 2.5 year old buck dogging a doe up a draw "growling" the entire time.
I am amazed that it has taken this long for someone to mass produce a “Growl Call”.
I have heard it a number of times over the years, I just never put a name to the sound. I have heard the “growl” type sound following a snort/wheeze vocalization. It was always made by a dominate buck is being challenged by a subordinate buck or bucks. And yes there was always a doe with or near the dominate buck.
I was surprised when watching the video footage that there didn’t seem to be a snort/wheeze????
The “growl” can be made with a little practice on most grunt tubes.
I have a True Talker Grunt Tube and the growl type sound is pretty easy to make on it.
While I have practiced with a growl type vocalization, I have never really used it in a hunting situation. Perhaps I have been missing the boat for many years?
I have used the snort/wheeze vocalization several times to draw a dominate buck from heavy cover.
I just came on to post this same question. I read the article tonight and I feel the same way about the Drury Products. Is this another "dog whistle" locater call, another new sounding call like the "spit-n-drum"? I'll admit I got suckered into the spit/drum call, it's still for sale, cheap. That being said, I would love to hear more about it. Firsthand accounts or anyone that has tried the call.
. I believe it is basically like a little deeper grunt call. But if you look at the video with the dead doe and all those bucks coming in the sound the call makes and the sound that deer made are not the same at all. Like I said a throatier grunt call compared to a diaphram bellow/growl.
I have heard this call in the woods before two bucks were fighting over a doe in a crp field. it doesn't sound like the mad growler though.
The other thing I don't like about the call is i can't high ball it at all like the buck in the video does.
Bottom line not impressed, will try it because i have it a few times if I get no results it's hitting the trash can, and I never by a promotional video from drury again.
I too have heard this but the vocalization varied a little from Drurys. I was hunting public in MD and there was a nice buck trying to get a hot doe up and he kept repeating the growl/elongated grunt, it sounded a little like a cow.
The next day I set my buddy in the same stand and he harvested the same buck I saw the night before making the grunts/growl!
I climbed up the same tree Tom just shot the buck from and he pushed a drive to me. The drive was a flop, so tom came back and was sitting at the bottom of the tree I was in and I was making the same grunt/growl that I had heard the night before, so he could hear it. As soon as I finished a nice pal mated buck came in running and I shot him with Tom right below me! It was a crazy morning.
I believe there is truth to this vocalization, I think the sound will vary from buck to buck.
Listening to the growl, it definetly sounds like it would be rather easy to create with most standard grunt tubes. Probably just need to force a larger, faster volume of air over the reed, in a quicker succession. I'd save your money for that higher dollar purchase that tends to creep up each and every year
