I am going to hit some public areas this fall and want to be able to mark stand sites, good sign, etc. What do some of you have that has a good readout, accuracy and mapping? Thanks in advance. btw, I may use it out west one of these days??
Shredder,
Dont know what middle of the road is for you, but I ended up going with the Garmin 60CSX. Very easy to map with if you know your waypoints or even if you need to search for your waypoints. Plus the back track feature is nice if you find a easier access point to a stand instead of wondering if you are on the same path in the dark.
Do some searching on the internet and you can find them for around $350 ( In cabelas they are on sale for $449 I believe) That is what I did and it was brand new in the box and not refurbished or anything. Then you will probably want to buy the city navigator for it which is another $100 bucks but well worth it if your like me and got lost in East St.Louis /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif
I cant believe I lived as long as I did without one because they are the best tool in the world especially if you dont like your stands stolen but like to find the same tree in the darkness of the morning.
I highly recommend the garmin 60 cx or 60 csx. They have the new sirf chips in them and I can even get reception in my basement. They both work amazing. I have the 60cx and the only difference between the two is the csx has an electronic compass and altimeter. However, the 60cx has a compass while you are moving and shows altitude as well. The 60cx is a little cheaper, you can find them between 250-300 if you look hard. They also work great in the mountains. the topo maps are great as well.

I did have to send my Garmin in to be fixed. They sent me a new one of the same model and a new 12 volt car adapter. I think the original adapter burned up the unit.
Good customer service, but I'd rather not have to find that out. I'm sure all the brands have their "problems".
