What kind and why?

There are a lot of good quality middle of the road bows out there.

Look at Diamond, Fred Bear, PSE, Martin, Darton, Reflex, Parker and Mission.

All of these companies make quality bows they will stand behind. Find the one you like best and go with that. Don't pay to much attention to brand names, get the one fits you best

yes there is a name brand game and everyone who shoots a bow seems to become "Pro-Staff" and swears thier bow is the only choice out there......

however, i do fimrly believe you get what you pay for.....the more expensive bows are nicer,
HOWEVER, just about anything anymore will do the job adequately....
Martin, Mission, Diamond, Reflex, Bear, Jennings, etc. are quality mid-range companies that make quality equipment....
getting into archery is not cheap, so expect to spend some money. but there is affordable ways to make it happen.....
if you get a chance, shooting some bows is the best way to find what you will like....i would recommend shooting some the next time you are in town. when you shoot a bow you dont like, you will be glad you took the time to test a few.......

here is my best way to test them

without an arrow pull the string back and let her go......
if she doesnt blow up, buy it....

ok, im kidding.....

If you are going to go "economical" go with the fread bear stuff. or diamonds.

Something to think about..... You really have no "previous" knowledge, from what you say, of shooting. So any modern day bow, is going to be amazing for you. Not to mention they all get the job done. I love watching the deer maagazine and see subscriber pics. Some of them shoot some real antiques!
