Black-eye to the sportsman hunter.

Hear about this every year, maybe making it hurt more if caught would help.

Middle of the field, not good!!

However, how much meat do your really get of the front shoulders after trimming tendons, ligaments etc....not much on most deer. With 18 deer, I am sure they had all the meat they could handle. I'm not recommending the practice, but I don't think it is as bad as it would seem. I have been told that in MN all you have to remove from the deer to avoid Wanton Waste is the loins and HQ's. Not sure that applies in IA or not.

This is par for the course for party shotgun hunters. I am surprised it even made the news.

I would think most shotgun hunters want deer for the meat. Thats why most of them party hunt. Theres alot better chance of getting one. Then there's a reason to get together for a butchering party.

I think who ever did it should get a big ass fine and its sickening but I wouldn't say its par for the course though. Seems a little harsh.

sounds like a couple of groups i know of in southwest IA, with the only exception, at least the 18 found had the loins and hind quarters cut out.

I had a similar encounter here in eastern IA this year with some duck hunters having 10-12 rotting ducks in the back of thier truck. I informed the CO and asked about want and waste. He stated that once any game is taken into ones possession they can do whatever they want with it after that, assuming that it is disposed of legally. He went on to state that if they fail to pursue the game when they shoot it, that would be want and waste. I don't agree but that's the way it is.
