What to do about the corn?

I have a stand on a small finger with a great pinch point that is a perfect setup for a N and NW wind. Perfect for cruising bucks scent checking the south side of a block of timber that I hunt. It is surrounded by corn and by the looks of it and from what farmers are saying there is no way the corn will be out until late November. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

My question is has anybody thought of knocking down a couple shooting lanes in the corn? not knocking them down to the point where the corn cannot be harvested but just so the 15-20 yard shot to the timber edge is achievable? I have a very limited area to hunt so this is one of only a few stands that I have access to.

Just a thought and I wanted to hear other opinions.

I'd for sure do something IF you can- basically if you are the farmer or the farmer says it's cool. Best thing is to combine some rows by your stand- shoots or whatever you want to call them. If you can lightly knock some down, of course I would if it's cool to do that, the only minor downside is leaving all your scent around when you do that BUT probably well worth while.

One year in my own corn field I drove a few paths through it with my truck- OK the bigger reason there was because is was fun and because I could. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Personally, lots of corn up doesn't bother me that much. I know most guys it does BUT I just concentrate on thick nasty stuff inside timber AND green food sources like alf-alfa and clover.

Great idea if the farmer is good with it. I'm not sure how good lanes would work in corn though. Almost like you'd need to cut out a pocket like a semi-circle or rectangle area that's completely open. Just an off the cuff thought but what about approaching him with an offer to "buy" some corn so you can be liberal enough to get a quality shooting spot. Perhaps even a bottle of good whiskey, gift certificate to the farm & home store, etc. would be a possibility. Also a good way to keep you in hunting a spot for years to come.
