me and a buddy was talking last night about are first bow we ever started hunting with . well the very first bow was a 40# recurve that i bought a garage sale from the neighbor and it had 3 arrows with it. i was only 12 and it took everything i had to pull it back and i spent more time looking for the arrows than i ever did hunting with it. and the first compound bow was a pse. i look back at the changes they made on bows and i am just amazed. so i was just wondering what everybody else first started with and how they got their first bow

21 or 22 years ago, Bowhunters discount warehouse sold me my first bow....a PSE Phaser. I was shooting gamegetter arrows 2018 and 50 pounds. Tipped with Kolpin broadheads. I killed my first deer, a doe, with that bow plus a coyote and numerous birds and small game. I was hooked from then on to bowhunting.

Back in 1972, I got my 42 lb./ 60 inch Groves. Shot several deer with it. Still have it and plan on using it soon.

Early in the 1970's I purchased an all fiberglass Ben Pearson recurve. It was a 50# bow as I remember. I never shot any deer with it but I did harvest a number of rabbits and squirrels with it. Sometime during the late 70's I bought a Bear recurve that had a draw weight of 48#. I did harvest a number of deer with the Bear bow.

Browning Cobra @ 50lbs with 2117 gamegetter arrows.Paid $69 for bow 27 yrs ago.Took it off the shelf couple years ago, gently pulled it back a couple times and the top limb snapped.

My first bow was handed down to me from my father. It was 24 years ago, a Waterman Recurve at 45 pounds and I used wood arrows that he made tipped with Zwickey Broadheads. The bow blew apart on me after a couple years hunting with it and it still is on the wall for memories.

Shot Dartons from 1987 till 1996. A Darton 70MX was my first deer chaser, it had a 47" axle length. Still think those longer bows are more accurate.

Gave up the wheels in 96' and went to Black Widows.

first bow i hunted with was a XI Silverhawk winging full length 1816's tipped with filed down Bear broadheads.

Horton Supermag Crossbow, dad bought it for me brand new for Xmas 12 years ago. still got it and still shoot it now and again.

Got my first critter, a chipmunk, with a fiberglass recurve and fiberglass arrows. First true hunting bow was a Bear Whitetail but harvested my first deer with a Martin Cougar Magnum shooting 2117s at 60#.

Mine was a Bear 50lb compound with a custom camo job. I shot full length, snakeskin camo, 2117 XX75's, tipped with 145 gr. Bear Razor heads, and no sights. To take it a step further I was wearing the original Trebark camo with camo face paint.

Mine was a Darton.shot it for about 3 years.Got another Darton and it has been Mathews since.

A custom made York. It had extra small wheels and extra thick limbs. Shooting a 20 inch draw length with 40 pounds was hard to find. First deer was shot with an old Jennings T star. 2 blade Delta Nubbins (sp).

I started out with an AMF Little Wing wooden recurve my dad bought me. Must have been 30 years ago my first kill was a bullfrog and then a pigeon. I still have it and it shoots but its only 15 lbs. pull. Later I shot my first deer with a Jennings SidekickII @ 38 lbs. My nephew now uses the Jennings.Seems like yesterday.

I think it was a Browning? Hand me down from Grandpa in 1979. No deer just a half dozen sick pigs and a few farm cats

Thanks anyway Gramps.

Hunt on All4s

I bought a PSE Vulcan 70 lb draw circa 1986. It has been my sole hunting bow since. It is most likely the reason I don't bow hunt that much anymore. If I upgraded I think I would be more motivated to bowhunt. Not willing to plunk down the $change$ for todays technology, sad but true.

A used Browning from the early 80's. Not sure of the model, killed one doe with it my first year hunting. Then the following summer the upper limb pocket broke. It sounded worse than it really was, but I think that I was lucky and didn't get hurt.
