What will you do different?

I'm going to spend more time sitting in a ground blind with my kids rather than a treestand by myself

Sit longer! I finally did this at the end of last season, and i could not belive the deer i seen moving in the early afternoon. I'm also going to stay away from duck hunters! Steel shot hurts.

Im gonna sound like a broken record. Im gonna try my da*$dest to stay in the stand longer. Im also gonna try to sit all day a couple of times. A couple of times last year duing my vacation in November I could not get into my stand until 8 AM or so because I had to take my kids to school. Well I stayed in the stand until noon instead of my usual 4 hours of 6-10 and really did see more deer moving at that time than I ever expected to see.

Thats why I believe in the Buddy system huskerbuck, have a buddy follow you to your stand and when you are set up in the tree have him take out all the steps or sticks, then your stuck there until he returns

thus extra stand time

I am going to hunt mornings more...I have had my best luck in the afternoon but I think that is because I am not giving morning a fair shake. I am also going to pay more attention to exiting the stand at night. Many times I am in a hurry and try to take the fastest way and I think it has hurt me in the past. I am planning my routes now...

This year Im NOT going to put two stands up within seeing distance. That way I wont be dissapointed when I see the buck Im after walk 15 yards from what I considered the "lesser stand" that day.

..........Quite the opposite, I'm going to spend a little more time in the stand alone. My last 4 seasons or so have been great times sitting with my son but he has now graduated to doing it on his own. I look forward to seeing him succeed and fail. Both are what hunting is all about.

I will try to roll out of bed earlier for one and hunt mornings more often. I am going to get my stands totally set up this spring. I will try keeping the wife happy while hunting as much as possible.

My wife calls herself the "hunter's widow" from mid October until late December.
I'm going to try to get up into my stand earlier this year. I walked in and found too many nice deer under my stand when I should have been up in it. I'm also shooting like crazy this summer. I've practiced in the past, but this year, I want it to be second nature. I want that 30 yard shot to be a piece of cake.

No. 1 -- Get out more often

No. 2 -- Move slower once I do get in the field.

No. 3 -- Do more glassing.

No. 4 -- Shoot more does!

I am going to try to stay out of my best hunting areas until the "Prime Time". I always get anxious early in the year but this year I'm going to try to refrain. I have also been practicing alot. I want to be ready if the chance comes.

Skully...I think that is a good plan. In years past if I'm busy at work I won't even enter the timber until November first.

Some years it's just too darn hot to make for enjoyable hunting early anyway.

I too am going to make an effort to have many more set ups outside of my best areas for the early season.

I want to spend the most time in my best areas during the best time of the year.

Oh, I almost forgot...what am I going to do different?...much more time away from work and in the tree.

Like you guys said, I will get the Dbl Bull out in Sept with the chair and decoy waiting inside of it! And not hit that spot til the first week of Nov. And I think I will go pee outside my blind more often and a little earlier in the season. Maybe everytime. Worked last year!

Although, I sold that blind to NWBuck. Sheet! Good luck with it! Make sure you take your bow out with you!

Despite my medical condition in late october, I am going to sit on stand as often as I can (last year pneumonia plagued me the last week of october).

Try to get my wife shooting a bigger buck than she did last fall on video

Try and take the daughter out in the double bull and shoot a doe or buck

Try to make it up to Ghost's place and video his daughter or him hunting a little bit.

Make myself even more mobile this fall with Lone Wolf stands

On the topic of wives and hunting: Have you heard the story of the Prayer of the Hunter's Wife? She prays,"When I die, Have me buried in the woods, then maybe my husband will Hunt for Me."

Shredder...How come one of your goals isn't to help your 'ole buddy Silvertip get a good buck?

I would guess that my goals this year are to:
1) Learn my property better.
2) Hunt every opportunity I get.
3) Shoot a good buck with my newest recurve.
4) Most importantly, I want to enjoy every single minute in the field regardless of what I put on the ground!
