1) I'll hunt less!
With a little to guy to watch after work until my wife is done work and another baby on the way in late Oct. I'm sure my time will be cut short.
2) I'm not going to worry about killing a buck at all. I'm looking for a giant, if I can't find him, oh well, I'll take a doe instead. I can always shed hunt.
3) I'm telling absolutely nobody if I see a good buck!! I haven't....honest!

Every season seems to bring new mistakes. I do stay in the stand all day the 1st two weeks in November & hunt hard. This year I'm going to use some different calling techniques based on what I learned last year. I am also trying to figure out how not to come unglued when the 170" 8 point pops out 8 yards from underneath me & how to avoid arrow dribble like I did last year. I'm learning that if your not in the right frame of mind some mistake is bound to happen.

Use more calling techniques. I did manage to rattle in my first buck last year and it was awesome, not a shooter though. I also called in a couple small ones by breaking twigs and rubbing the tree with em. Hunt later in the mornings I suppose, I haven't seem much from my spots on any morning, but give it a go. As much scent control as I can afford to go with.

1 - Set up more stands for east winds.
2 - Don't overhunt ANY spot before the prime of the rut and don't hunt some spots at all until the start of the rut.
3 - Sit longer in the mornings.
4 - Shoot more does at specific hunting spots.
5 - Set up the tree stands earlier in the year.

Im going to take my stand seats home every day so the miserable tree rats dont destroy them

lol, no, I decided taking my stand seats in with me every time could become a scent control issue. Oh ya, the ##@$%^ tree rats still like em!

I am going to find a piece of ground I know will produce a good buck and not mess around with the cow ridden places I hunted this year. I am going to stay on stand as long as I can from end of Oct. through Nov.
I also am going to save my better hunting spots for late oct. and nov. That to me means not hunting close to bedding areas in early oct. to try to kill a buck I don't know is there.
I also am going to try to be more versatile and not stick to the treestand I hung in summer just to notice I need to be 50 yds further. I will hang a stand in the dark if I have too.
I will also do more scouting now rather than during the season.

One thing I hope to do different this year is hunt the great state of Iowa for the first time. I have 2 preference points and hope to finally draw a bow tag.
