What would you do?

[ QUOTE ]
What really makes me mad is that concealed weapons permits are not like drivers licenses where other states have to honor them. Why can't there be a federal carry permit (other then for law enforcement) where a guy would be legal to carry concealed anywhere in the US?

[/ QUOTE ]
Amen. Also why do I have to research the county sheriffs' carry policy before I move to that county? Carry permits should be allowed statewide as long as you have a clean record(no felons)

I went to the NRA site here and they are posting the same states that recognize my IA carry permit as packing.orgs does. When I go to packing .org and the NRA site for KS they differ greatly. Packing.org says KS can carry only in AZ, FL, MI, and VT while the NRA site says AL, AZ, FL, ID, IN, KY, MI, MO, OK, SD, TN, UT, VT for a total of 13 not 19.
This whole situation with these carry laws is a mess IMO. We have 99 counties in IA with the sheriff in each county having the power to determine who gets to carry. I am fortunate to live in a county where I have been able to carry for years but I have buddies in Story county and that sheriff doesn't allow them to carry. We need one state law that overrides all of this individual county decision on the matter. Furthermore, it should be all of us concealed permit holders' rights to carry anywhere in the United States without having to look up info on these sites and wondering whether the info is correct or not.

Well the NRA's website is not current either. This is why I said go to your Attorney General's website for CURRENT regs. The KS website also shows CO, LA, MT, NC, and SC as of 5/10/07 for a total of 19.

I am in total agreement with you about the headache of having so many varying rules and regs. Iowa's county by county stuff is ridiculous. When Concealed Carry became law here in Jan., we had city by city variances in the laws and it was a nightmare. Last month we got statewide conformity to our laws so now everything is good

I have been on the IA ATTY Generals site and can't find info on states that accept my carry permit. Anybody know where to look. Thanks for the input KDS.

I am not sure you guys can find what you are looking for on this website, but check it out. I am sure that there are members on the below site that can answer your questions.

Iowa Carry

This seems to come down to circumstances that we have most control over ourselves. Do you consider yourself "above the law"? If the law clearly states it is illegal to carry then you are considering yourself "above others" when you illegaly carry in. Then if you try to make the justification that You are smart enough not to get into a situation with an illegal weapon when others would, then you start making judgements on people you don't even know. This is why they create laws and have law enforcement.
I know you are stating it's for your family protection, but if I knew that an area that I had considered vacation/hunting was going to present a clear danger, I would plan to make travels elsewhere. Let's say you pack the illegal gun, do you look over your shoulder every step of the way because you think you may have to use it?? Not much for relaxation in my book. Plan a trip somewhere else or try to hook up with someone else and trade some hunts. Worse case spend extra money hiring an outfitter that has controlled places where you can enjoy the hunt.

I know what you are saying Pat Cady. If I was hunting with just guys it would not be an issue. I wonder if the DNR is out of touch with the fact that women bowhunt in the wilderness when these no handgun laws were implemented. Not above the law, but not ignorant to the fact of what could happen to my family or wife by some creeps. Staying at home with the doors locked is not an option for me.

I believe in the 2nd Amendment but that is not what your question was.

You question was would I ILLEGALLY carry a weapon into a bow only zone for safety.
My answer is still Nope, if I was afraid that I could be the hunted and I paid to go there, why would I go there.

What leads you to believe that the DNR is out of touch with Women in the woods and hunting for that matter?

I bet a deserted island is pretty safe

Who said I didnt have a wife who bowhunts?
I do have a wife that hunts and goes into these dangerous places you talk of and I dont carry a hand gun with me.

So some of us just make our own laws, that is why there is all kinds of violence in America and just because you have a gun doesnt make you safe, knowing your surroundings makes you safe.
Just gives you the false sense that you are safe.

If the place you plan to go is as bad as you think its going to be than go somewhere else.

I can not imagine running into meth heads 6 miles back in the wilderness.

Stay close to your family if you are that concerned about it and leave the sidearm at home.

Who wants to run into this guy and his buddy out in the woods armed with guns and all you have is a bow and your pretty wife/ and or son? In the woods there is no 911. I am with the other 98% on the other forums and here that agree with my viewpoint.

As from your other sites you surveys I concluded that about 50 people total answered your surveys.

So out of 50 people approx 48 agreed with you and 2 disagreed. Well I know of atleast 3 from this site that didnt agree so your percentage is off and if you base your own answer on just what 48 would say then I guess we have a concensus.

Actually the Majority of the responses, say go somewhere else or find a different hobby
confused.gif
That is strange and not to take it.

Also if you would base you answers what you see in movies then the world should end in oh about 3-4 days.

The Drake Diner incident happened because anyone can get a gun and do with it what they want and that is your 2nd Amendment right and it is accidents like stated above that give push to the gun rights activist to push stricter gun laws.

So you think carrying around a gun everywhere is going to save your butt, I guarantee you that if someone wants you dead, you will be dead, no matter what you are carrying. And you will have no idea what hit you.

Sounds like you are antigun?? The majority advise me to not go?? Not on my threads. You stated your opinion on the matter; I wish you the best on all of your hunts. Archerytalk and Huntnet guys that agreed with me should get your drilling too. Help get through to them as you are not getting through to me. I am a lost cause, so work on them.

Here you go; give them hell.

Extremely sad and terrible, but this is exactly what happened to a few armed hunters in Wiscosin a couple of years ago.

As for me to answer the first question, I abide by the law. I guess I have never needed to defend myself with a gun and expect I probably never will. Maybe I have too much trust in my neighbor but I just am not that paranoid about it.
