My mind is beating the crap out of me! I passed 160s 10pt and a 180s 12pt this morning. if you hadn't seen your target buck for a few days would you shoot? I'm about to cry over that buck, for sure be the biggest buck I've shot.

If I went into the season with one deer in mind I would settle for nothing less. He's probably got a doe pinned down somewhere. However I'm not sure I'd be passing a 180 either unless the buck o was hunting is something truly special. A 180 could be the buck of a lifetime for some.

He's a crab, doesn't seen to be interested in does at all.

Worst part...didn't even get video.

Most of us have not seen "the one" you are after and have only heard he is special. We also do not have a good idea how well you have him "patterned" and how much time he is spending off property you control. Knowing this is the rut and that is a game changer, it would be absolutely tough to pass a 180" deer. Good luck with your decision, as you are fully aware, you have a difficult one to make.

I don't get it. You are passing all these good deer, but spent your state-wide tag on a much smaller one? Or was that your landowner tag?
Maybe some things are just not meant to be understood...

160's understandable- I have passed up one that size this year already- 180's- MOST hunters go their whole life and don't even draw back on a 180's- if he walked by me- even with a giant on the radar- I would have been slinging

I think you made a good choice if you really want to harvest the deer you have your sights on. I do agree the other deer you passed on are huge and I would love to have either one in my collection. There is still time so get out there and find him! Please post a pic showing that putting the time in and doing your best will get you what you want... It's my guess but most people would keep after the bigger deer if they have any dedication in there heart!! Good luck and I wish you the best of luck

Hey btw how old are you I'm guessing young by your screen name so other members on here be helpful... This is not here to put him down.

Passed him up or didn't have a good shot?

Passed, I know it was probably a dumb idea. I'm using my landowner tag right now. I used my state-wide any-sex on the 151". I've never seen any of these deer before, if you guys knew where I was hunting you'd be surprised this place even had deer on it! I still think it's worth a shot at the buck I'm after. Might have been a bad idea (probably was), but it could be worth it. This is the first year I've hunted rut. I've got the buck patterned decent, he's not interested in does, he keeps to himself, and tries to be alone from the rest of the deer.

My thoughts... Passing quality deer for the ONE is commendable. Most, including myself, would not pass a 180 in hand for something bigger in the bush. Don't get so caught up in the horn porn that things get ruined for you. Without knowing the details of the deer your after or his patterns it's up to you to decide if he's truly killable. Good Luck.

To answer your question. Yes I would shoot without a doubt. With that being said though, I have never had a true monster to chase (assuming "the one" is a giant). Can I ask why you haven't posted any pics of him? I think there are a lot of sceptics on here about the truth of your whole story about this deer.

Assuming you are not full of crap and know how to field judge deer. Then you just passed a lifetime buck for LOTS of people. I personally don't care what deer you shoot or don't shoot, but I would hate to see you start to dread going hunting because of a "what if I have to pass a really nice buck" scenario. Hunting should be fun and enjoyable, not a torment. Just make sure you don't get so wrapped up in one deer that the whole aspect of hunting becomes a stress in your life. It should be just the opposite.

Except for maybe one answer- the majority aren't putting him down- he put out the question with the want of getting honest answers. When it comes down to it- its his decision to make- but telling him we wouldn't have passed the 180 class buck is an honest answer. Lyon said it best- big bucks can ruin people for a years hunt- it still needs to be enjoyable and not stressing every day- the giant may not be killable right now- we don't know- passing a 180 buck wasn't a "DUMB" move- its a move he chose to make - but its one a majority of us wouldn't have done.

Keep after him. But don't fool yourself, all bucks are looking for love. He's probably just keeping his pimp hand strong and you are seeing him move between does.

Lets see a pic of this beast! have you seen him from the stand yet?

Doesn't seem stressful yet (Okay, a little) but, I'm glad I still have a tag in my pocket. I would rather spend time hunting the buck I'm after than shooting one I wouldn't be happy with over him. There's a few guys on the forum that have seen him, I was hoping they'd comment. What I'm seeing here is how many people have the patience to wait for that right buck to come by even if you're offered a 180s class buck. The buck I'm after to me is a buck of a lifetime. There can and will be more 180" bucks. My friend almost shot him a few days ago, I'm not giving out bull.

IMO you are nuts for passing a 180, that's the buck of a lifetime for me. In 6 years of bowhunting I've yet to lay eyes on one that size, and know that I likely won't. If it was truly a 180 you passed and the other buck is that much bigger my hats off to you.
