What would you do?

I was hunting the 200 acres of private land I manage for a man this evening. I was sitting there and about 6 a doe comes full speed under my tree and behind her was an average 6 pointer. They were in full sprint so I thought something was chasing them. Well about an hour later I heard voices. They were screaming B-R-U-T-U-S over an over. Finally, I had enough, so I started to climb down and then out of nowhere a pitbull comes running under my tree chasing a Tom. So I get down and find the people on the property and ask if they had permission to be out there. They reply well yes I know Mr. " " and he said it would be fine. So I head to the owner's house to find out they have no permission. I know where their stand is and the boy did shoot a buck tonite. I was so hacked cause it ruined my whole hunt and maybe even the property since they were screaming for 30 minutes. What would you do? Take their stand down or what?

You should....
With the landowners blessing remove the stand and take it to his house. Leave a note tacked to the tree with the address or phone number where they can contact him to get the stand back. That will give him a chance to correct their assumption they have permission to be there.

I would...
Cut up the stand and leave it in a heap with my 18v Sawzall.
$hit on theground right by the tree.
Be a prick in town when you see them.
Spread rumors about their mom.

Call the DNR and tell them the buck was poached from private land

huntnfish,
I had a problem kind of like that yesterday, my uncle owns a farm in southern iowa and a couple of friends and I went down yesterday and hung stands, after setting our second stand we noticed a tree stand that was about a 100 yards away. So I went down there and looked it over, my uncle said noone else had permission to hunt the ground so I left a note on the guys stand to give me a call and left my phone number. I figured this would be enough to get the guy to take his stand down. If he doesn't call me claiming he has permission so I can tell him to remove his stand and is there when I get there to hunt the sh** is going to hit the fan. I was nice about it because it is not my land I figure everyone needs a second chance. Because I didn't know his story.

I agree with Bukket.....then if they ARE brave enough to go to the land owner for their stand, he can at least get some id for future tresspassing incidents OR even call the sherrif if he feels like it.

Okay now it gets better. I went to there location about noon today and found out they have been feeding corn all over the area around their stand. I think I will call DNR. Isn't it illegal to bait in Iowa. I just moved here so be gentle.

it is not illegal to feed deer/wildlife...it IS illegal to HUNT over bait

you will have to show the DNR the stand, hanging within 600 yards (i think) of the bait

Yes it is illegal to hunt over bait. Now someone give me a good description of "BAIT", and give examples. This outta keep the post going for a while.

I would call your DNR ASAP, they should be notified of the situation. I, myself, have no tolerance for things such as this. Oh yea, and the pitbull, I'd take him out, not the animal I want to run into walking out in the dark

I owned a PBT for a few years in college. In defense of that breed he was a great dog and very well mannered. He even had a red nose, which is supposed to indicate a better chance of being mean.
That dog was so strong he could pull me across a carpeted room on my stomach (I'm 6'2" and weigh 220) when we played tug of war.
We never did have an incident with him, and gave him to some buddies who moved into the same house when we left.

There is no denying, though, that as a whole this breed of dogs is bad news. They possess a predisposition for vicious behavior. If the owner does not care for and train a PBT correctly the chances of an incident greatly increase.

From the regs:
BAIT - "BAIT" means grain, fruit, vegetables, nuts, hay, salt, mineral blocks or any other natural food materials, commercial products containing natural food materials or by-products of such materials placed in an area for the purpose of attracting wildlife.

The corn was less than 20 yards from the stand. There was 3 piles of about 20 pounds in each pile. I bet with the rain it all got soaked. To bad for the illegals. I am going out this afternoon to take the stand down. Well let you know if anyone is there.
