What's the longest shot you have made?

I practice out to 40 yards, however, I will probably never shoot past 30 at a deer..... Too many things to go wrong and it is not worth it....

Mark....

I know archers/hunters that proficiantly & consistantly take game over 30 yards and as far as 60 yards. I also know archers that constantly wound or miss game at 15 yards year after year.

We hunt for many reasons and one is to harvest an animal. Take a shot only if your extremely confident it will be a killing shot otherwise don't shoot.

I work very hard to insure I will be confident when the shot presents itself.

32 yards at a buck 3 years ago. Wouldn't shoot any further than 35 yards. Even if everything was perfect.

Good posts by all...
Being new to bowhunting, I only recently found out that my groups aren't nearly as pretty with a broadhead

They're tight out to 30+ yds with field points, but the broadheads are a bit fickle past 20-25...they obviously accentuate any minor errors I make in form

Thinking 20yds is a good place to start

Having the time to put forth the hard work, practice, and persistence sure wouldn't hurt your hunting success either!

I like to practice at 50+(lose a few arrows occasonaly) I would say i'm paper plate proficeint at 40. Would prefer shots at 20-30. I have harvested two deer at 40, both good shots. The three deer I have lost in my hunting lifetime have been under twenty yard and i hit high on all three.
(20-30) is definitely my zone. (Note) I usualy have my stands set exteemly high and I think I over judge the distance on close shots.

the longest shot that i have made that was successful with a bow was 28 yards. the max i will attempt is 30. last year i missed a 160 class 10 point at 36 yards, i estimated 34 and shot 3 inches below him, even if i would have held him for 35 i stll believe i would have missed. to many variables over 30 yards like wind, true arrow flight, and when you get out that far it only takes misjudging by one yard to spoil your chances! oh yeah, with a gun, nothing special, longest is 70 yards. with the way our terrain is here you rarely have to take more then a 50 yard shot!
