I had heard a similar story a few years ago. Guy had to get the taxi to come in and take off the antlers and re-attach after getting the mount inside.

There is a taxidermist trick where you remove the antler and add a square peg to the pedicle, then you put a piece of square tubing in the skull cap wich allows one or both antlers to be removed. I've seen it done alot for moose and elk and you really can't tell at all. I've thought of doing this if I ever mount my matched sets of sheds, then I can still take them down and hold them.
