My favorite fish to catch and eat is the catfish. I like them
fried in bacon grease with some diced onions and small sliced mushrooms.

If you vote other, please post your favorite bait.

So for those of you that like Catfish:

I like Shad gut more than any other bait. It works the best right after ice out but you can catch good sized fish on it all year long. It has won me quite a few tournaments. For non tourney fishing i use Sonny's blood dip bait. I go through a 5-gallon bucket of it a year and its the best dipbait ive used. J&N dipbait worms is the worm i prefer. If i want to catch bigger fish i catch shad in the throw net and use the shad heads and middle section. Also live bluegill\bullhead for flatheads. Just all depends on the situation your in i guess.

Shad gut is still my fav. tho :)

For Channel cats I like to use creek shiners. Seine the creek by the house, put them on ice, and head out. I usually cut them into nice bite size pieces and roll them down infront of a good logjam or at the head of a deep hole. It usually doesnt take long and it seems that we get the bigger fish on these compared to using stink bait.
For flatheads theres nothing better than a small bullhead, 4-6 inches. I like them better just because it seems they never die in the water or in the bait bucket.

Chicken liver with worms is what I use.
This is not a joke but I know one guy who has used marshmellows and yes it worked. Besides using those you can tell when you have no bait as the marshmellow will float to the top.
True story.

cut bait for channels, best year around bait if you ask me.....
occasionally use liver too.....

The bait changes with the season.

Shad gut works all season long, but I prefer cut baits...specifically shad and bluegill. I like to use crawdads and chicken livers during the right times also.

I run a lot of live bait during the spring time and switch to stink bait in the summer...then back to live bait in the fall.

It's always live bait when I'm after the big Flathead's...otherwise it's a waste of time. I've never caught a flathead on anything other than live bait.
