What's your goal?

When it comes to harvesting a buck this year with a bow, some may go out with no goal, just for the pure enjoyment and hope for the best. Some may go out only taking a minimum class buck,or better. While some might only go after a particular buck,or maybe a certain age and up.What's your goal this year for a bow buck? And why?And also, will you stick to your goal right to the last day?Or does your goal change as the end of the season nears?Like everyone else,I'd love nothing more than to arrow a 200+ class buck. But to keep things realistic,my goal will be a 130 class and up.Because ,I feel a 130 is definetly a good challenge here, but achieveable. And I'll stick to my goal even if I go empty handed.Hopefully our quality of bucks continues to improve, where I can up my goal in years to come.Every deer is a trophy with a bow no matter what your goal might be.But was just curious to see what kind of goals everyone sets for themselves?

My goal is to shoot the biggest buck on the property.

Up until the first of November I usually just kind of watch to see what different bucks are hanging around, and I usually fall in love with one or two of them, and become completely obsessed with them, and no other buck will do. So therefore I usually end up eating my anysex bow tag or taking a doe with it.

I like Kat try to find a particular buck on a piece of property that looks appealing. I Try to maintain 145 plus for an 8 point or 155 plus for 10 or more. I went two seasons in a row not Harvesting a buck at all (wounded a 170) just waiting for the right buck to come by. I would just assume letting every other buck walk in hopes that they grow up into something I would shoot. Does get no free passes after the 15th of December. With a muzzleloader, I will set my goals with beating my top bucks I already have on the wall.

My entire game plan this year is revolving around 1 buck. After 3 yrs worth of trailcam pics and two yrs worth of sheds,I guess Ive gotten a little obsessed. But to be completely honest, I wont hesitate for a second if another buck of his caliber shows up in front of my stand. So I kind of have a goal of one particular buck ar at least another buck of his caliber. Ok, now Im confusing myself, how many days til season again?

main goal...freezer full to the overflow point of deer meat.

also, to keep my anysex tag open until i get to hunt with liv4rut a few times.

i have a HOPE of getting a nice one for the wall, but any decent buck will thrill me

I don't know what my goal is yet, I will let you know when he is down. It all depends on which buck I see first out of the 4-5 I know I will shoot if they come strolling by, also there may be a new buck in the woods, that will intrigue me

3 years old or an older buck or an old barren doe.Got 2 extra doe tag's to fill also but if need be I will use my buck tag to take an older doe late season.

My goal for the first time in my life is to just enjoy myself. I dont want to put the pressure on myself that I must kill the biggest buck on the property, or he must be a 180 or better, or whatever. If anything I want my son to take his first quality animal this year and to not get caught up in the hype....and to truly enjoy the experience.

As many does (Slick heads) as possible with my bow. Something to hang on the wall 140+ or a Yogi deer (weird rack or drop tines.) I also would like to add some fur to my collection. I bought a furharvesters license so I could take a fox or raccoon. Those darn turkey have been eluding me too. They always seem to eye ball me up in the tree. I won't shoot a deer under 110. I like to see them grow.

Similiar to what tineseeker and THEBAD said - enjoy myself and shoot as many does as possible.

I'm going to hold out for a Mature 4+ year old buck but if it doesn't work out I'll sure enjoy the extra time in the stand.

harvest does to get some "deer" under my belt with a bow. Then when he walks by I will know if thats my goal when I see him.

I have two goals for this season. The first is to fill my doe tag with my son in the stand with me again this year. I was able to do that last year and it made me realize what hunting is all about. My second goal is just to learn as much as I can about deer and their habits so that one day I can reach my third goal of harvesting my first buck with a bow that is also big enough to go on my wall.

Aside from enjoying the solitude, seeing a lot of critters and hunting smart I will take a doe and then hold out for a 140 or better – if he doesn’t come, and he just may not, it’s tag soup and I’ll do it all over again next year.

Well, my season has already began and I still haven't harvested much. Although I've been finding moose sheds and caribou sheds every hunt I go on, I'm really interested in putting meat in the freezer. I want to get my brother his first grizz so he'll be shooting the first nice boar that offers a good shot. I already have a calf moose in the freezer from opening day of moose season but it may be tender it didn't fill my freezer, so my goal is filling the freezer. I really get the same rush as killing an animal with horns or antlers along with finding thier sheds so I'm not to picky. I already have well over a 100 pounds of bone this fall alone in the past 3 weeks, its kinda funny I'm making second and third trips just for all the sheds I pack out. I hope we all meet our individual goals... Good luck.

Good thread!

My goal thus far is to fill both of my doe only tags for the special hunt at our lake. Those that fill both doe tags gets their name thrown in a drawing for one buck tag next season. I hope to be that lucky hunter. After I fill my does tags, then I will work on filling my regualr does tags and hopefully get a wall hanger buck. My main love is just being with my kids while hunting, while teaching them to be responsible, ethical hunters. My second love is just being in touch with the beautiful nature that God has given us. I feel at peace when hunting. A trophy buck would be nice, but like Teeroy (edit for spelling) said, filling my freezer with venisin is the goal.

I have multiple goals. Here they are in no particular order.

One is to just enjoy another fall outdoors in Iowa with a bow and videocamera in hand. Life is short, you only get a limited number of falls and I want to make the most of each.

Second is to harvest a number of does since my area has too many deer. We'll eat several and the rest will go to HUSH.

Third is to look for a buck 4 1/2 or older to tag. If I don't find or get him no big deal. It is the hunt that I really love.

Fourth is to get some good reference material for future paintings.

Fifth is to get my family out hunting. Last year my parents, wife and kids all got together and we had a great time.

Best of luck to all for a memorable season!

My first goal is to take my niece bow hunting with me and attempt to take a doe with her along. Teach her want hunting is all about. Hopefully she can sit still as she's 11. After that I have a particular buck I call "air jordan" which I'll hunt in late Nov. I have cam pics of him in 02 and 03. He's a big 5X5 and his pics in 02 show his mouth open on two of the photos, hence his name. Hopefully get his pic this year too. Otherwise any tonka 130"+ is game also. As usuall, all 1 1/2s get a free pass. Good luck everyone on your goals.

MY GOAL IS TO HUNT WITH MY BUDDY KEN T. WHO YOU ALL KNOW AS TRPR IN THIS SITE. TWO YEARS AGO I KILLED A NICE 8 POINTER WITH HIM ON NOV 2. I'D LOVE TO KILL A MATURE BUCK ( P AND Y OR BETTER) BUT REALLY AM JUST LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING LOTS OF DEER AND ENJOYING ONE MORE YEAR OF HUNTING WITH A FRIEND FROM SOUTHERN IOWA.
