Where did they go?

I checked my trail cam last night and was happy to see that I had 82 new pictures. I got home to view them, and found that out of the 82 only one picture was of a buck. Which by the way was not worth the battery life that it took to get a picture of him. Anyways, I was just wondering if anybody else has been experiencing the bucks becoming more secluded and not as easy to find. About a month ago, I was getting lots of pictures of great bucks, but that has quickly changed. Anybody know why this would be? Even if the bucks are becoming more nocturnal, I should still be getting pictures of them. I did move my camera from the food source to a funnel leading to the bedding are in hopes this will help.

This is kinda apples and oranges, but the deer activity on my ground is way down in the past couple of weeks. I don't run any trail cams (yet) so I wouldn't know if its bucks or does. I'm not seeing the tracks or the browsed over vegataion. I'm just assuming they moved to another food source such as the neighbors bean leaves instead of my wifes plantings.

I have noticed the activity has slowed down the last couple weeks in the southeast corner of mn, but I think a lot of it has to do with the 90-100 degree temps we have had during that time. That along with a lack of rain has to make licking dirt out of a mineral lick down there on the list of things to do!!! That is just my guess.

I have seen the same thing here in Nebraska. I am still getting pictures of bucks but all smaller ones. Been about 3 weeks since I got a picture of a decent one. I think it is the hot weather. I don't like to move around alot when it is 100 degrees out. Mostly from the couch to the fridge to the bathroom and back to the couch. I assume that the larger bucks are doing about the same thing.

I took into consideration the heat, but it hasn't seemed to affect the does and fawns, yet the bucks have almost completely dissapeared.

Just a thought, but what are the water sources like in the area?

I moved some cams around based on water sources because we are as dry as a bone right now.

My most active camera with the recent heat was placed on the bank of a creek that still had a water supply.

The heat really screws up a camera's sensor as well. If you have a cool creek bottom with water I would recommend trying that.

Same here checked my cam last night and only had pics of does and young bucks, hopefully as my food plot comes in they will return. I'm sure the heat had them all near the water holes.

This just in.....
Deer can dig. On really hot summer days they dig caves into sides of hills and stay cool deep within the cold muddy earth.......

I have no clue where they are, but I would be willing to bet will be some good activity tonight and tomorrow morning with the lower temps.

I moved my trail cam to a new spot right before leaving town last week. I ran to get it first thing when I got back this afternoon, happy as a kid at Christmas. I was sure that I was going to have tons pictures! When I opened the case, the batteries were so dead the camera would not turn on. Boy was I pumped!!!! Insert the memory card into the computer and half the pics were of nothing. I'm assuming the heat was triggering the camera, as some of the bursts were pretty rapid fire. The batteries held out for 4 days. I did get quite a few does, not one buck. I will be putting it in a different place tomorrow!

I'm not running a trail cam yet, but my son and I went out road cruising near at our hunting ground, and saw 6 bucks tonight. One was a giant, and I thought he had a very large droptine - turned out to be a cornstalk caught in his rack. The two next smaller ones were probably at or over 140. The difference I noticed on my weekly drive-bys is that they are coming out closer to dark now than they were a couple weeks ago. One other thing - that big buck had a white rack, and I couldn't tell for sure, but it looked like his velvet was off. I find that hard to believe, but he was with another buck that was clearly in velvet. Would he really be in hard horn yet, or was it just lighter colored velvet (if there's such a thing) ?

The bucks are still there, they are just bouncing around from field to field I noticed. It seems like you will catch them somewhere in the block, but it may be a quarter mile away from where you last saw them at. In the dead heat I was getting many pics of deer starting at 4pm till Dark.
