I don't know to whom or where it happened at. The guy was bore sighting his rifle in and left the bore sighter in the barrell when he fired it. Dang it could have been nasty. I've heard of this before but never seen it.
My grandpa did that with a shotgun when he was younger with snow in the barrel. One of the pieces currled back just like that and scratched his nose. He got very lucky.

A friends dad still has an old 12ga that he stuck the barrel into the mud sneaking up on some ducks in a pond years ago. THe gun looks like an elmer fudd gun. There is a big buldge in the end of the barrel but it did start to start to split the metal.
