Alright, so my Dad and I went to get our tags for 1st season shotgun. I had gotten a $2 Landowner Youth $2 Landowner Youth Doe and a Any-sex Bow Tag. Why is it when we went in and he wanted a $2 Any-sex Landowner for gun 1 & 2 he couldn't get it? If I wouldn't have gotten the Landowner Doe would he still be able to get it? We ended up getting 2 Any-sex 1st season shotgun tags. Just curious on how this all worked. Another question, say my Uncle and Aunt wanted me to go on their farm and hunt could I use a Landowner tag? I haven't done this, just curious if I could.

EDIT: I also bought a $28.50 Reg Youth tag too, along with a Doe tag.

TeenageHunter,

You used the landowner tag when you got your LO tag. You can only get one.

You cannot use your LO tag on any other land except your own.

Hope this helps. Good luck late season.

the landowners tags operate based on the land having "registration numbers" ...one landowner tag per Land ID Number.

And if I am reading right, you want to hunt their farm with their tag?? If thats the case, then NOPE... And you cant use your tag there.....

He could hunt their farm with his tag, as long as he's listed as the tenant.

An "outfitter" in my area uses all sorts of non-hunting family memeber's "tags" so his clients can come to Iowa and kill bucks during the shotgun seasons...they just buy a NR doe tag and "party" hunt. The names on the valid anysex tags are supposed to be in the field with the non-res hunters, but last I check his grand-parents weren't of "able foot". Complete bull$hit, but our stellar DNR officers won't pursue any of it.

Or pay the 27.50 for your youth tag. if u dont fill it during youth season you can use it till you fill it. in any season.

I want to use my tag, it wouldn't take much to be put under as a tenant.

Plus, I am pretty sure you can only hunt ONE of the gun seasons, not both.

With a Landowner tag you can hunt both Gun 1 & 2.

If I ended up becoming a tenant on my Uncle/Aunts property would this solve the issue of the tags?

Already have a Reg one, I used the Landowner one first and still have a Reg Youth Tag. This is all for next year. Also, you can only buy youth tags DURING Youth season.

No offense bud, but sounds like you are looking way to hard at killing deer. There are reasons why most people are only allowed 2 any sex tags... You are wanting a whole lot more than that... I love to shoot deer right along with the rest, but I dont try to find every possible way to shoot deer... Especially when the majority of people on this site are saying we need to back off doe harvesting, myself included. Now I do realize the area you are hunting, and I know there are still a lot of deer in the area. BUT, there wont be if you keep shooting x amount of deer..you always got to factor in wounding, vehicle kills, predators, tough winter. just my 2 cents, and not trying to rile you up by any means..just I just look at it as, whats the point? Why attempt to play the system so much?

I have to agree.... Just buy your youth, any sex, and a couple of doe tags and go have fun. If you buy doe tags for the specified county that your uncle and aunt live in than you can go hunt their farm without worrying about a landowner tag. Don't get so wrapped up in trying to play the system.

Teenagehunter,

Not trying to beat up on you but man it sure sounds like you are trying to

be a little greedy here.

Just do what is fair and honest.

If you live on your land you can get a LO any sex. That is all that I get or any other LO. Yes I have buddies that will let me be a tenant on their land but why it is not being honest.

If you honestly are a tenant then I would say yes you can get a LO for your aunt and uncles. If not then No you can not.

You are making this into more than it has to be.

Just do what is right. :way:

Good luck to you.

Because, the properties are better there. 85% of my Dad fields are crop and it's hard to get a Deer on just plain open land. On the property I want to hunt the Deer ate the 6 outer Rows of corn! Plus you can only hunt the wind if it's coming from the north on most of our places. This place you can hunt in almost any wind. Next year I'll be turning 16 and will be my last year Youth hunting so I want to get this figured out so I can hunt most of the seasons. I'll have to choose between Shotgun and Mzloader even if I'm a landowner, correct? I've opted out not to do Jan. antlerless because of the Doe "problem". Some places the Deer actually need to be taken out.

EDIT: The problem isn't weither I want to hunt or not. I want my Dad to be able to hunt with me and not just sit around and watch me. I've killed 3 Bucks this year and he got 0 Deer during shotgun.

Just do the honest thing TeenageHunter.

No deer is worth being dishonest just to shoot it.
