Critr, looks to me like you need to invest in a Vcam and see what monster is doing that damage.....you sure it isn't your Brother in law and a hatchet just messin' with ya????
Well, believe it or not Rudd, the thought of someone actually making those rubs crossed my mind for a spit second. The gouges are deep into the skin of the tree, but they're not made from any sort of blade. The only reason I'm confident these are actually made from a deer, is because of the sapplings that I've found next to and along the rub line. I found three or four of them that were literally shredded and twisted into two pieces. These weren't coat hanger saplings either, they were legitimate small trees. I'll try to get back out and post a few more picts. in the next couple days.
Teeroy,
You're right about the hat, I was hoping no-one was going to catch it.
Fear not, I should be sporting a new one any day now.
CRITRGITR,
Has your property been logged recently? Because when they logged them at the place me and my dad hunt we found many trees like that, it is from them dragging out trees, and they rub up against the bark and peel it off.
i almost want to agree with Youngbuck because i've seen similar marks on trees from when a logger drags a trunk out and it scrapes against another tree. i don't see any tractor tire tracks or anything. just something to consider. for your sake, i hope that it's a buck!!
Nope, no logging in this timber. This is an area I pay a-lot of attention to, and that's why it boggles my mind to find these rubs now, and not know what buck put them there. Who know's could have been a spike with unusually high testosterone levels and a dry scalp.
Unless there any four foot beaver's running around in your timber on steroids you have a serious big monster buck problem. They look fairly fresh also. Keep a eye out for some big bone laying on the ground.
