I had a 160-170 10 pt. 24" wide, 10" or so tines and nice mass, walk right to me tonight (5 yds). I had to turn around but when he was 2 steps from being smoked he winded me and ran back toward where he came. I shot at 30 yds quartering away probably an hour before dark. Didn't hear any arrow impact but it was windy. He didn't run (more of a trot) but 30-40 yards and was milling around in the brush(very thick). I waited an hour after dark to even get down from my stand. Looked for 5-10 minutes for my arrow and couldn't find it and left. I didn't want to kick the deer up if he bedded where I saw him. I can't take it right now... I am thinking I missed him. With the quartering away shot, if I hit him, I wouldn't expect a pass through so maybe I'm ok (probably not). I seem to have a knack for missing the 160-180 inch deer. The 130-150 are fine, but I seem to rush things on the booners. Sad thing is that our gun season starts Saturday and puts a damper on the rut. Get out and hunt it's probably not the peak but I've seen a Poper and a Booner two evenings in a row. Wish me luck finding blood in the morning.
