Wood ducks

The wood ducks like to nest in hollow oak trees in the farmyard. The old oak log I dropped and posted in another thread (Walnut) had a hole in it, but so does another oak that is still alive. Hopefully they will use the standing oak again, have in the past.

Not a bad pic taken with my iPhone through the glass window of the car.

We had some when we first purchased our property, were around for about 4 springs then never saw them again. It was pretty neat to see them up there

Was with Marty who is member here on his place. Tons of wood ducks & even an eagle nesting. He mentioned adding wood ducks boxes. I need to dig into that more & see how much to do those or how helpful they r. I’m clueless on that stuff.

Wood duck houses are a fun project.
There are a couple things that are super important though.
Hole size, roughed up interior so the chick's have a way to climb up n out.
Cool Pic JNR. Woodies arriving are almost 100% true sign of spring.
They taste damn good in the fall also.

I had one wood duck house that was successful last year. I added two more and am hoping for success with them.
I also have 4 bluebird houses. Most of my bird houses are visible from my porch overlooking my pond and a small plot. Great viewing at sunrise with coffee. It’s all good.
