Would you have sold it?

you damn right i'd sell. if there is a sucker out there to give me a hundred grand for a mess of horn, i'll take it. that and about 5 replicas, with the chance for more if they got damaged

Just me but I would have not sold it for 100 grand! If its worth that now what will it be worth at a later date if no one breaks the record. I would have a replica made just in case something happened to the original. I am sure you could insure the mount. I know it would cost extra but it would be worth it. If the money would help a person get out of financial difficulty then I say go for it. Please advise where you can buy a 1000 acres for 100 thous so I can get in on the deal. I know you could probly use it for the initial down payment hoping your crp may help pay your paymnets but 100 grand would only cover the down payment for ground in the area I live at around 750$ an acre. That would buy you about 500 acres. If you could find the right ground that the crp payment would pay most of your yearly payment then I might would consider it. Tough to do though. I don't blame the young man for selling it if he gets to pocket all of the money himself. If he invests it properly by the time he is most of our ages on this site he could buy alot more with the money in the future than at the present. Uncle Sam will take his share for sure so that may leave him between 70 and 80 thou. Enough money for a good education. There are some things in life that money just can't buy and each and everyone has to decide for themselves what they are. Those who can buy anything that they want have already figured out what they are. Just my two cents!

i heard through the grape vine it was a 100 grand clear so probably about 135 actually

I would get a replica for sure. Maybe sell the replica, not sure. Bad thing is the world record won't last forever but the replica will.

I challenge anyone to say with absolute certainty "No, I wouldn't sell it" when you find yourself sitting there with a big check for real money being waved in front of your face along with a handful of free replicas.

That price seems a little off to me. Call it a "gut feeling".
Good luck to them. I hope they got what they wanted.

No, I wouldn't sell it!

Just kidding, I would sell it in a heartbeat. Like Shredder said, not really for the money, although that would be nice, but the satisfaction of taking such an animal would have been payment enough for me.

NO! To many memories, too much blood sweat and tears. Only way I would is if my family was in a situation that forced me into it. To much respect for the animal to do that. I have tried to raise my boys to never equate $$$ to trophies, it would make me a huge hypocrite.

100,000 is cheap for these big corps. definately would of had a bidding war between bass pro and cabelas, and it would take seven digits at least, six seems kinda low.

Id be laughing all the way to the bank. When it comes right down to it its a set of antlers. You got replicas, pictures, the memory of the hunt itself.Id of made sure I was getting all I could get out of it but Id of sold it in a heartbeat.I dont believe its any more disrepectful to the animal then touring with it, using it as an advertisment for some company, or getting plates made with the animals likeness on it.Either way your makin money off it.The only way your gonna truly respect the animals to hang it in your house and never show it to anyone and never turn a dime off of it.Then youre considered a freak for not sharing it.I might sound greedy but Im just being realistic, records dont last forever, someday, somewhere, somebodies gonna shoot a bigger one then all youve got is another really nice deer head.

if i remember correctly the most that any set of antlers has ever sold for is around $80,000, or so i've been told. i think that $100,000 is a substatial amount but if they held onto them a little longer and maybe got a couple big corporations to bid against each other they could've gotten more, but not much more. no way it'd reach 7 figures.

Nebraska whitetail I took your challange and I must say I would head straight to the bank with the 100 thou! The replica's would look just as nice and all the money to spend on hunting trips would last a while.

It will not happen, but if so nobody is going to hear about it. It is my own personal adventure. If they did find out, I hope to be able to destroy the antlers.

If thats all hunting is now. It is truly sad.

I havent checked in for a couple days, apparently I missed something! Had not heard that it had been sold yet. Anyone know if it will still be at the Whitetail Classic as planned?

As for me, I dont know. As much as I love antlers, it would be awful hard to just let it go. Awhile back, there was an article in the Des Moines register about the value of the Louvesten buck. They interviewed Milo Hanson who said he makes about $10,000 a year touring with his WR. So thats $100,000 in ten years if nobody beats it, which isnt real likely, and he still has his WR.

So that brings up a question, is a WR still worth $100,000 after ten years when everybody in the world has already seen it twice, has 4 T-shirts and a coffee mug with the rack on it??

I do like the idea of buying land with it. You have spent your money but you still have something to enjoy, and it is going to produce some income and increase in value.

I might have tried the hunting show scene for a year to see how it worked out!!! But its not like the young man can drive himself to the shows! Where did the original article appear? On the sale?
