I had a couple posts with a “negative tint” ;) I wanted to refocus on the far more overwhelming reality of the great things. Though we are struggling & there are issues - we are still blessed.
What have you enjoyed most this season? Memory, unique experience or overall time outdoors so far?
Mine has been the time out with my boy. I sit with him & I haven’t even brought my bow. I will give this whole season to making some memories there & have some fun experiencing the woods together & teaching him some things. He’s 14 & when I started - no one I knew or that was in my family hunted. So- I was a train wreck of a hunter. Best part of my season so far- being with Charlie (& some others) & being with them as they experience some great things for the first time.
There’s all sorts of fun things along the way too…. Bobcat with 4 kittens messing around. Bucks chasing. Pheasants all over below the stand. A bird that perches above me and takes a dump on my head. ;). Go enjoy the woods & time out there and if u have one thing cool, fun or unique of any type… fire away.

Its not been a very good season thus far. A lot of sits without a lot of action or seeing much...did an all day sit yesterday and only saw 4 deer from the stand.

My dad usually hunts with me. I've always enjoyed the drive to and from. Talking Hawkeyes, economy, plans, and deciding who is going to sit where and then on the way home what all we saw. Texting each other in the stand what we are seeing or should I rattle now sort of stuff. Its not always about shooting a deer.

Things happened really fast and I got caught up in the situation. Glad it was a clean miss as I probably would have regretted killing it.
 
Some of the off-season prep and hard work is working as planned. I also got to see an incredible sunset and back to the east that super moon was rising. Great season even though I haven't tagged a buck and probably won't.
 
I tagged a pretty 6yo, my wife tagged an ancient 8 with tons of trash & character, but by far, the best part of my season has been my youngest son tagging this 5 yo 9 on the final morning of his vacation. He works a ton of hours and can’t get away much to enjoy the woods. I set the stand in early October on the south edge of a thick bedding ridge. On the final morning of his vaca, “Dozer” came right down the tube looking for love. The shot was perfect and the drag was short & easy. Hunts like that don’t come often or easy. Grateful beyond measure for mornings like that.

Easily the best part of my season is when my 7 y/o tagged his first antlered buck and we had some extra family in town that weekend to share it with. A nice 10 pt that won't make any record books but a buck he will never forget and a smile that was almost impossible to leave his face. I also was fortunate enough to tag my biggest buck to date as was my younger brother. I also got out with another one of my brothers where we had a great hunt and rattled in a buck that he harvested. Not his biggest deer but an exciting hunt and good memories shared. Another perk of tagging out earlier this season has been being able to spend more time hunting with my Dad who is 74 and uses a crossbow and realistically doesn't have a bunch of hunting seasons left in him and also driving around looking for deer with my boys 3 and 7. I'm good if I don't get a deer in gun season but I'm hoping maybe my son can get one more or possibly my Mom can shoot her first buck with both antlers (she's only shot one buck and it was a half rack probably 30 years ago). I probably have a few more hunts with my Dad so hopefully he can get one of the nice bucks we have on camera but above all God has shown me this year that you can kill the biggest deer of your life but it's the memories of sharing time with family outdoors that will mean more than any rack you ever hang on the wall. Cherish the moments with family and friends, be courteous to other hunters even if they don't share your goals or possibly screw up a hunt for you (if you're hunting public). There's always more deer but we only get so many seasons to share so thanks to God for all the good and bad I've encountered this season.
 
Harvested a beautiful & mature buck on the first evening of early muzzleloader season. The spot where I caught up with him was a “nothing” spot 3 years ago. I built it into a place bucks like this one want to hang out in come early fall. And now I have more time to focus on other farm projects.
 
I’ve gotten to hunt a lot. Still have my bow tag after November 5th for the first time in 6 years and as an added bonus none of those pesky taxidermist bills yet. Life is good
 
Hate to say it but havent gotten to hunt much, just 1 time. Its all kinda backwards back in the day(high school) when I had tons of time, and not so great spots, now I have a pretty good farm and no time because of commitments.

I plan on hunting the gun season pretty hard as long as the weather cooperates. My season hasn't even really started yet. Hoping all the bow hunters dont have all "MY" deer all shot. Lol.
 
Celebrating a successful harvest (not mine), hunting in the same tree with my brother (haven't done that in probably 12 years), taking my two boys squirrel hunting, seeing 12 gobblers and 26 hens during one sit, and had a two hour encounter on Monday with a buck I'm targeting including him at 18 yards but couldn't get a shot off.

There have been plenty of slower hunts but I've had some exciting ones as well.
