Youth Turkey Season

I have had the pleasure of taking a number of young turkey hunters out over the years to assist them in getting their first bird during the Youth Season.

I have even been taking some first time adult turkey hunters out the last few seasons during the regular turkey seasons.

I thought it might be interesting to see how many of you participate in mentoring youth turkey hunters.

I see there are a few that dont know anyone that wants to go.

Does anyone know someone who wants to go? Maybe help these people out.

And those who dont know anyone, if you did know someone, would you take them?

If I had someone to take I would gladly go out and show them the ropes. I have tried to get a youth involved the last 2 years but he just hasn't shown any interest, so rather than pressure him I will let him pursue it when he is ready. Anyone needs a hand I am free that weekend and I love to call the jelly heads for others.

I've been working on my 12 year old daughter, but she hasn't shown a lot of interest. Maybe at the last minute she will. I've been working on my wife though. I think I might be able to get her to go. We'll see.

Here's is what I'm up against.

I live in central Iowa and have experienced great to severly declining turkey hunting. My son is now 7 and I would love to take him out. But between loosing ground to people selling out and new housing developments my options have been greatly reduced. I'm afraid if I take him to the areas I have access to (with verey few birds) his drive for hunting may dwindle. What makes me half sick is I've mentored children 10-15 years ago and had great success. But now it's my own son my opportunities seem to be diminishing.

I want him to have the same drive for hunting that I do, but I also know that a child can only take so many hunts without success before they loose the sting.
I'm not trying to whine but I fear his days a field may not be what mine were.

Does anyone else feel this way?
