I came across a podcast where Zach is being interviewed. I have never even heard of him. He speaks to a lot of issues that are on my mind. I am very reluctant to believe anything these days. Does anyone know him? Is he real? Will he fight to accomplish the things he says he will? Thoughts?

I've been listening to him a bit too. I really like what he has to say. I hope he's legit, but I have no way of knowing. So often they say one thing to get elected and do another thing once in office.

I listened to a decent amount of a podcast with him after seeing this thread. He doesn’t say much that I disagree with, we definitely need to start putting our health and water quality first in Iowa. We made it too easy to grow corn in my opinion.
I was blown away by the number of acres he said are actually growing food that will be eaten “in it’s original form “

Heard many good things as well. Doing more research. I can say I’m almost a hard no on Feenstra. More we can learn on sand, Lahn & steen the better. We need to get this right (as possible in politics).
I agree with your comment on Feenstra. What sealed the deal for me was watching video of the house sub committee debate the proposed farm bill earlier this month- specifically when they were debating CRP. Rep from California moves to add an amendment to update some of the payment items in the program and update language for emergency use cases. Feenstra then speaks up essentially killing the mentioned amendment citing the harm crp causes the ag community. Amendment is then removed from discussion. It seemed to me it was straight from the big ag lobby.
I just want clean water, a govt that actually cares about our natural resources, and a govt that will listen to DNR staff vs Farm Bureau lobbyists when crafting legislation. I 100% feel Feenstra will give me none of these

Lahn is an interesting candidate and in my opinion the best one to go up against Sands.

Feenstra has no ideas and is run by his donors. All I see him doing is kissing Trumps ass begging for that endorsement.

Listening to Lahn on the Shawn Ryan show now that a buddy sent me this morning. Interesting listen. Hope he can gain some traction and get his name out there more.

Haven't been paying attention to the governors race yet but this is first I've even heard of this person. That cant be a great thing.
Sand seems to have a major head start on everyone. If you asked me before reading this who was running for governor the only person i could have named is Sand. I suspect most people are in same boat.

Agree that Sand seems to be way ahead and about the only name I hear of much. Feenstra seems to be the republican leader at this point.

Sand seems to be the only one that everyone has heard of. I really respect what he has done as state auditor, his office has uncovered a lot basic theft, government employees stealing tax dollars. He is a long time hunter, fisher, and supports conservation. He posts fairly often on bowhuntersofiowa etc. facebook page. He's been sharing his harvest pics of deer & turkey and asking questions on there for years. I have talked with him a couple of times by happenstance, once at the deer classic and once on ragbrai. He doesn't seem like your typical democrat and he actively speaks out on him hating the two party system, why chooses the democrat side I dont know. Hes young, has energy, and really seems to want the best for Iowa. He is able to speak for himself and actually seems like a person when he talks/explains things.

Feenstra...to me he just seems like a robot. I think he is a cyborg. Doesnt seem to have that human connection or seem to speak for himself. He is going to just go along with whatever the party lines are and his donors what him to do.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem that conservation is a priority for the republican party at all.

I lean conservative for sure, but if the election was today I think I'd be voting for Sand.

I have not been following Iowa politics lately , but did see a Democrat almost beat a Republican in a special election. Do everything you can to keep Iowa a RED state ! It’s incredibly important!

As a Minnesota, I’m so embarrassed for my state (politically) !! Most of MN is RED, but they keep control in Mpls/St. Paul —and it hurts our state from social issues to $$ in your pocket !!

Vote RED !!!

Sand def is going to pull votes from republican side. Have heard multiple people say as much. I predict he wins.

I’d caution you to not to fall for the Democrats/conservation trap … in Minnesota we are fighting increased gun control, & restricted use of ATVs near water. In other words… limited use of ATVs on public land and even snowmobiles on lakes .

They gave away a State Park to the native Americans & tried to give away Upper Red Lake to natives only… shutting out Minnesota anglers . Complete disaster.

Tampons in public bathrooms, hatred toward law enforcement….Taxes will go up, license fees for vehicles up, losing businesses!! I pray Iowa stays RED, or it will be a change for the worse !

My opinion on Gov is not made up yet.. Lahn seems to be making the podcast rounds.. good story.. have my questions.. he made his $$ working for the political wing of Koch bros.. large fertilizer/big ag and lots of other stuff. I can see the smoke rising from one of their plants that’s 10 miles from my house most days.. loves to speak on regenerative ag but failed to mention how easy it is when he rolled in with non ag generated income to purchase the ol’ family farm.. much easier to make money in organic/regenerative when the land is bought/paid for… even easier when you don’t need the money. Hope he’s genuine but have my doubts..
Steen.. seems like a good dude.. at least he hunts.. bonus for turkey hunting. I got a soft spot for turkeys.
Sand.. lots of good stuff! Sure he’s a good dude. Probably on our side when it comes to deer.. don’t trust his associates though. Haha.
Feenstra.. will freely admit there is nothing overly likeable…. But…. I still can’t go along with everything his potential opposition stands for.. seems like the non-Morman Mitt Romney version of Iowa gov candidates..
SKIP!!! Is it too late to for you to run??!!!

I was wondering where he made his money.
I’d bet I’ve handled more chemical than anyone on this site but I still agree we need to change a few things to make everything safer for the people that live here. That said, I think if we banned chemicals and went back to organic we’re just trading one monster for another. ( chemicals vs 5 tillage passes)

Haha!! Totally agree!! And I bet you have handled “almost” as much chem as anyone on this site ;) people thinking things were safer and better back in “the good old days” desperately need to do some research!

People need to do a deeper dive on who is supporting Sands. I liked him as our State Auditor, but the donors financing his campaign should make people think also. Just because he has been on Meat Eater Podcast and other conservation sites to come off as a local Iowa guy who likes to hunt and fish. Contributors to his campaign are $7 million from his father in law that owns a company in Ankeny, $250k fron Reid Hoffman who is tied to the Epstein files, $50k for Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, just to name a few. Plus he still wont answer what is a women. Lets not make Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois or California.

Sorry but I think Sands is a snake in the grass and I'll be steering clear. He's done a better job of making himself look like "one of the fellas" than Walz did with his bird hunting videos, I'll give him that. But being an outdoorsman like me isn't enough to make me vote for him when he still hitches his pony to the democratic party. Good for you bud, you like deer hunting too, cool. What are your thoughts on transitioning children?

If the primary was today, I'd vote Lahn. If Feenstra gets the nomination, good chance I leave my governor vote blank in November, he's a worthless hump.

This is gonna be the problem for people that tend to vote R…. Feenstra has plenty of campaign $$ due to being an established candidate and will most likely be the last man standing on that side.. solely due to campaign money. Do you just hold your nose and check the R box or vote Sand.. or nothing. Is nothing pretty much a vote for Sand??? I think those that tend to vote D are planning on that.. Is not voting for Feenstra more important to you than quasi aligning with all the “other side” and all their “special” issues..

Yes...entirely too much risk in voting for a Dem campaigning center in this environment. If they will encourage illegals to cross the border, give them a license and SS card, make it legal for them to vote and fight to keep it that way...they will look at you straight in the eye and tell you just what you want to hear for your vote. If you are feeling the need to leave your box empty, take a trip up to Minneapolis before you do.
