Burning is fine. However, I have a section like yours. It improved from year one to year two. We are going to wait one more year to see the full results. End of year three is always the magic year, regardless of the stand success early on.

Here is an incredible one in Michigan. https://www.northamericanwhitetail.com/editorial/knocking-on-doors-yields-monster-michigan-buck/369394 Few miles up the road from us. Sigh, Some day I too shall harvest a deer like this. LOL

I know you did not say it but I agree that Michigan is no Iowa. But in Washtenaw County, MI, I know two people who have taken deer over 190". My neighbor and another gentlemen up the road about three miles. It scored over 200". They are becoming more common as hunters let deer grow older...

Good point. We used Cave and Rock as the other blends seem to be new and not enough information out there about their long term viability. Not that they will not work. I was just being cautious.

Many state it takes three years to establish a good stand. Ours was decent at year two but this year should be incredible. Look at page 62 of this thread. From dbltree "To put things in perspective... All my original stands I mowed and sprayed the fall before, winter seeded and did...

Either way I think planting in December will not lend itself well for germination. It most likely will not germinate until next spring. Also, thanks for the correction as about 25% of the seed will not germinate. I think it will be higher with weed competition though. Typically, individuals...

Here is what we did after a lot of research and reading hundreds of pages here. Be Patient and do not panic until year four. 1. We disced and then frost seeded into corn stubble in the late winter. 2. Sprayed 2-4D, Simazine (Pre-emergent) and Glyphosate in the spring. (Mid-April in Michigan)...

It will not come up until next year. The seed needs to stratify first.

Second year switch. Frostseeded, sprayed pre-emergent and post emergent 1st year and then nothing else. Did not mow.

2nd year switchgrass. Clover around the outside and soybeans in the middle. Could not find switchgrass the 1st year. Shorter switchgrass on the edges where more shade is present.

This! From the man himself. Not that you should not spray again, but patience can be a powerful tool. We had the same issue last year. No foxtail this year and switch is all over the place. We did not spray again after the first application. Read Page 62 iowawhitetail forums To put things...

Thanks! That will be a great reference as we chase this elusive weed. I mean sophisticated grass. HAHA

Could some post a picture of an individual mature Cave in Rock switchgrass plant. Maybe pull it out or cut it off at the base. Lay it on concrete and take a picture so the rest of us novices have a reference. Thanks in Advance!
