That’s fertility removal, not fertility use. Removal is only for the grain itself. The plant itself also uses nutrients to grow..

I was under the impression it's a lot less needy than corn. I'm sure if you're producing it as a cash crop you can split hairs with that stuff but I literally did not fertilize, all on clay soil tops in IL, and it grew great (see above). The dirt had been soybeans prior so probably a little N in the dirt from them. pH around 6.4-6.6Really? You must have some fertilizer built up in your ground? I planted milo last year, and fertilized, but not enough I'm afraid. It filled in well but few heads I believed was caused by lack of N,P,K...I didn't plant too thick. I thought Milo has the same Fert needs as corn? I tried to get by with less than half N,P, K and didn't work out...
It Is not splitting hairs, without fertilize you won't get grain, and I might be missing it, but looking on my phone, I don't see any grain on the plants in your pics. Your field looked exactly like my field, plants with no grain. I didn't fertilize enough and it looks like you didn't either. I don't want someone to come in here, read your comment about no inputs for milo and then be surprised at the results. I'm not trying to be a jack wagon about it, but this site has tons of good info on it and I'd like for it to stay that way, sorry.I was under the impression it's a lot less needy than corn. One of biggest issues with milo is too heavy of planting rate. It's not like soybeans where they will just grow to fill in their space.Milo won't head out if too thick.I like for game birds but for deer unless you have alot it will be gone by winter depending on level of tannon as this level has alot with how much is consumed.Deer prefer it during early stage or milk stage when it's still green.
