    Early Muz Tactics

I don’t have a lot of experience with this season but I’ve taken a couple. I would look for a scrape on the edge of heavy timber next to an area where does feed for an evening hunt. A buck might not step into an open field, but he may come to the edge at dusk.

Experiences with forming “co-ops” to manage for older deer???

My thinking is similar, much easier to identify a very few deer with a lot of potential, share photos and agree to pass until some agreed upon age. It would be awesome if it worked out.

    Turkey #’s & one observation….

Our turkeys numbers have crashed badly. In addition to an explosion in coon numbers, our area has had a similar explosion in bobcats. I see them regularly on my trail cams and I have several photos showing moms with babies. Coyote numbers also seem to be at an all time high. I’m actually...

    200 inchers?

As a father who has a youth who is youth hunting, I really like the fact that she and I can hunt more than one season provided we use the appropriate weapon for said season. Kids can be pretty busy these days with activities and it’s surprising how quickly a season can pass with few...

    Consensus on 2022 antler growth

Most of the older bucks in my area do not bed on our farm. The two that I can positively identify do not appear to have increased much in antler size. I’ll be curious to see the results later when I can get more bucks on camera and review.

Single most important ingredient in a food plot?

Me too! This band is coming right up through my area

    Age this buck

No harm seeing where his rack goes next year. A possibility I hadn’t considered when replying is that he just doesn’t have the genetics for much mass. My nighttime photos tend to make bucks look older and more mature than daytime photos for whatever reason.

    Tree identification

My app says common hackberry from the photos.

    Age this buck

I’m guessing he is not 4.5 to 7.5. His rack looks similar to what I would expect on a 3.5 but his body looks mature to me. Last year I ran cameras for the first time and I was very surprised how many photos it took of each deer to be confident of age with no previous history. Fun exercise.

    How many trail cams?

I’m runnng 10 SPYPOINT micro links on 177 acres. Last year I had multiple photos of most of the mature bucks crossing our farm. I could easily deploy more cameras and plan to pick up a few more if they have a good sale soon. Last year was the first year I started using trail cameras. They are...

Single most important ingredient in a food plot?

If not for the frost seeding I did this year I would have nothing. The clover is decent but spotty, growing best where shaded. If we could get some fall rains it could all bounce. I’m very new to farming/food plots. There are 5 ponds on our property. I bought a semi trash pump and hoses this...
