    Deer feed blend?

Any guys do their own? Keep in mind I have not done any of the feed calculations but took some knowledge from friends and added it all up. In the past I used: 60% all stock (12-14%), 30% whole corn, 10% oats. On some advice, changed this year to: 60% all stock (12% on sale), 30% whole corn, 5%...

Latest from my FSA office as of Dec 1

Dec 11 and still nothing. Absolute dysfunction. So good story, good friend who farms lit them up last Friday about his CRP and his loan for a new grain bin he had to have by this Wednesday to maintain his cash discount on the bin. They released all of his stuff Tuesday. The way he went about it...

Latest from my FSA office as of Dec 1

I have been trying to get more in. We bought it in 2016 so it wasn't reported until 2017 crop year. Since we have not had a new farm bill since 2018, we can't do anything. What complete dysfunction our government continues to be.

Stuck at my cabin (snowstorm ) rant

Man I totally agree. I am amazed at how many "personalities" can take modern gear and consistently make bad shots. There are some guys that have made bad shots for years. I just don't get it. I don't know if it is their shot angles because they sit so high or they just push bad angles walking...

Latest from my FSA office as of Dec 1

Government agency inefficiencies never disappoint. Just called and they told me that CRP rental payments have "pretty much" been approved so we should see payments in 1-2 weeks. Anyone else hearing the same?

Your Best part of the season so far??

Having my old hunting buddy come hunt with me this season has made my fall great. We have had fun this year. A little back story, he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 10 years ago and he beat that, not uncommon but still cancer. His bowhunting started slowing down a bit with that, his kids...

    Rut Action/Movement Reports

Did not get a chance to check in much but I saw what most guys were posting, which was good movement from the 10th to the 12th. Never had bucks so receptive to rattling, it was crazy last week. They went nocturnal in our area when it heated up Thursday. Rattled in the #1 on the farm 2x last week...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

https://iowacapitaldispatch.com/2025/11/19/lawsuit-claims-farm-bureau-hid-fraudulent-activity-from-insurance-regulators/ We are in a negotiation with them as their client hit my daughter. 100% their fault. The worst scum I have encountered in the industry...They are a bad company.

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

My rambling for today... Groups that operate on shady info IMO...of course the forever evil Farm Bureau & a little group that carries some weight in the state house...ABATE. For some reason lawmakers listen to those yahoos. ABATE lobbies constantly for liberal hunting regs. Joined for 1 year...

Giant Deer of Iowa are rapidly becoming a past memory

Great post. IMO, It doesn't take much of a hunter to harvest a great deer in Iowa but to do it consistently takes some skill and/or some extra fine ground...

    Rut Action/Movement Reports

Been tough sledding at home. Mirroring everything Jay has talked about on his videos. Like Skip, I got knocked in the dirt the last 2 weeks of October so I missed all that time, figured it was Rona and turned into bronchitis but a Z-Pak course and some albuterol and I am good as new. Started...

    Suggestions for MF rose?

I was stunned to see how bad this has gotten over the past 2 years. This area does not get much residue so I am not sure I can get a good burn there. Thoughts?

    What went on here?

I have experienced the same. I assume they are so tuned in to weather, pressure, or whatever, that they take it easy some days and feed/move more on other days. I am guessing several of us took ag classes in school and if we think back we were taught that rumens need to "relax" to digest their...

Corn Plot - Mow or Knock Down?

What I try to emphasize now is encouraging game to move from plot to plot through the day and adding cover to the food. Just by my observations, cover improves plot utilization big time in high pressure areas. We all know that to an extent, but it is the biggest issue on my farm because we have...
