Great thread to start. Going to take some sacrifices to get a good rotation going to build nitrogen. Especially to get to where corn is viable to the mix. I am on my first year with my crimper as well. Some good info out there on mixing N producers and banks like cereal rye in the same stand...
I would spray as soon as there is good growth. Say 4"or so. Might as well let most plants germinate. Smaller broadleaves are killed more effectively. Then see what comes back in case you could hit it again. May only need gly the second time depending on timing.

My experience one spring application of gly wont be enough on those cool season grasses. Usually the deadline is mid July so you could try and keep an eye on it and make the call closer to then. Fall application of gly to kill brome is hard to beat. Could also do a gly/24d combo if you want it...
Like new Ritual 30. Left handed, Black, set at 30" draw currently. Used as a backup and has never seen the woods. Asking 550$ with elite wrist sling, Hamskea hunter micro tune, Tommy Hogg site..

I plan to use rye and buckwheat for weed suppression and use some nitrogen producers like cow peas over the summer.. Likely try some soybeans for late food planted into rye. Start a rotation to get away from dependence on chems and synthetic fertilizer. This isn't going to be short lived.

I would take ASV #1 Cat #2 and I run an SVL90 Kubota too and its not a bad unit. Cat 299D2 is a beast but its like hauling a lead sled on a trailer.. I dont love pilot controls myself and tracks are a must doing forestry work. If you plan to run a mulcher ever get the biggest HP you can.

You are right on, if the plan is to actually add nitrogen soybeans are not the ticket. They don't require what corn does but its a pretty common misconception. There are in fact options to add real amounts of nitrogen thru a rotation but it really would require commitment and a "loss" of a full...
I am definitely moving forward with plans to help eliminate or cut way back on herbacide and fertilizer going forward, for myself and my customers. Going to have to make some sacrifices the first year or too to get into a rotation that fits. I have already begun to transition into a no till into...
Well it may actually be worse in that it turns out the dogs belong the a neighbor. He didn't give a crap when I went and told him and actually seemed irritated I stopped in and said anything

Appreciate the input. Its not currently an issue but it was in the past. Have a couple ideas to throw his way now and see how he reacts. That should tell alot of the story for the future.

It's not ideal but if he wants a lease he has to do something. If anyone is paying to hunt and has the season blown out by dogs I dont believe that would sit well. If he does it with someone else and gets sued thats not my problem. As a neighbor I would prefer to avoid that issue. Its a deal...
So I have a farm I have hunted on permission for about 10 years. He has decided to lease this coming year and we worked out the framework of a contract. I had a couple years in the past where his dogs basically ruined the entire season due to chasing and running deer. The problem dog is gone but...
Not all cell cams give you instant feedback. Its service dependant of course as even the best camera can only get you pictures as fast as the network will allow. I think saying all cell cams are the "devil" and should be illegal or are bad for hunting is a bit extreme. Cuddelink networks for...
Curious who has a recommendation on hunting lease insurance? There are the obvious hunting based companies but is that the best value?

I run mostly Cuddelink and a couple Spartans. I only run the Spartans during the season so I just run the Spartan plans vs paying the activation fee with Verizon each year. Cuddelink plan is thru Cuddeback and is the cheapest option for a bunch of cameras.
