One of the craziest laws in Iowa is that you can't prosecute someone found on your posted property UNLESS they're hunting, driving a vehicle, damaging something, or if you can prove they've been previously warned to stay off. I went through this a couple years ago after buying a new place...
Not sure what you mean by the "native seedbed". Problem is there are so many invasive weed and grass seeds floating around that, in my opinion, only way you can get natives like Native Warm Season Grasses to grow is to get the seed bed as clean as possible and then plant a good source of them...
Corn is king!!! I'd take corn any day over any other late season food source. Problem is.....more expensive to grow and harder to keep it around until late season.
I've had alfalfa in a blend of clover-type seeds that I've successfully frost seeded a number of times. Trouble with alfalfa isn't that it can't be frost seeded, but more that a stand of it is hard to maintain by simply mowing, like clover. The reason I've added it to seed blends, is for...
My experience has been the MZ Expanders are great, if you can get em to group out of your gun. I had a White that shot them very tight and I killed a bunch of deer with quick, heavy bloodtrails. The T/C Omega that I use now, won't group at all. But the Barnes TMZ do, so been using them...
Draw results are available on DNR website now. I don't know anyone who hasn't drawn this year, with no points. But that's Zone 4. May be different in others .
Dbltree has more info in his section on establishing clover following brassicas.....in general he sows it in Spring along with oats. Usually, just an annual red clover which then gets tilled under in late summer to be followed by rye seed blend at that time. But no reason you couldn't go...
Question: You had said...."So keep it SAFE and simple. You use what ever primer you adjusted for PERIOD! If you swap primers, take the time to readjust the headspace for that brand of primer." My question is this "headspace adjustment" only something you do with the CVA Accura? I have a TC...
DoubleTree has a very detailed thread about establishing EW in the Habitat section. We've been doing same for screening.....several rows of Eastern Red Cedars, with EW until they're tall enough. The EW is amazing.....in a year with decent moisture t can get to 12' in height.

Very good article this morning in this typically liberal newspaper.... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323723104578185271857424036.html?mod=wsj_valettop_email
i would mow or spray-dead the rye before July....or you'll have some very stiff straw to contend with. I've never experienced any alleopathic (I think its called) effects from rye on brassicas or other seeds in Paul's mixes. Yup, pretty much broadcast the fertilizers and pellitized lime, till...
I got this thing years ago....same company that makes the EZY screw-in steps. They were also first to come out with the long static ropes. With this device you use your regular harness and rope....short ends attach to the D rings on your harness @hips, and long end attaches to the prussic on...
I was gonna say same thing about Rich Baugh at Whitetail Properties rich@whitetailproperties.tv I know lots of people besides me who have done deals thru him, and all were very pleased.
I'm not convinced that having CWD in the wild herd is that big of a deal. It's becoming so widespread in this country, I think its only a matter of time before it gets here....one way or another. Since there hasn't been much testing donefor it outside of these high-fence hunting operations...
I've killed a ton of deer from ladder stands....but key is to find the right tree(s) for them. Usually, hang-ons give you alot more setup options....and are easier/safer to set up alone.....but in the right location they can be quiet and easy to get in/out.
I used Nockturnals last year.....found them to be reliable and no effect on accuracy.....but also found them to be very fragile.....killed 6 deer and it cost me 6 nocks.....not even one could be re-used. Ridiculous. I just ordered some Accunocks and am gonna give them a try.
I'd suggest just ordering from either Welters or Iowa-Missouri Hybrids, and having them ship to you. Both have very reasonable fees for shipping and this way you'll get exactly what you want.
