    Food plots and CRP program

I know when your planting food plots in ground that is enrolled in the CRP program there are rules to follow. Can someone fill me in on some of these "regulations". I know very little other then you can't plant more then 10% of the CRP acres in plots and they have to be grains like beans...

    Rut Intensity

Every block of timber in iowa has a bow hunter sitting in it during November and that wasnt the case 15 years ago. Increased human pressure over the last decade is what I think is causing a downturn in daytime rut activity. Warm crappy weather doesn't help but mature deer know when the...

Roundup Ready Corn & Soybean Food Plot

Dbltree, I'm faced with the question of whether or not I want to mess with planting soybeans and the hassle of fencing them off in 2012. Part of me says yes plant them simply for the variety and the other part of me says save the time and money for something else. That being said, I see your...

    Are tillers worth the expense

Im seriously thinking of purchasing a 3pt- 5' tiller to prepare my food plots but I'm unsure whether I'll like using one because of the slower operating speed and high cost. I'm currently using a disc and cultipacker to prepare my seed beds. I will be doing approx. 2-3 acres of plots each...

what have you learned over the years.

    1. Never hunt a stand if the wind isn't to your advantage 2. Stay out of your best stands until the late pre- rut. Avoid the temptation to hunt your best stands too early 3. Hunt all day long during the rut

    Rattling in a ground blind

Do it all the time, except for a when a buck is in view then I shut up and see what happens. No reason why you shouldn't rattle from a blind.

    What should I do??

There are a total of 30 acres of tillable ground on my lease of which 3 acres are designated mine for foodplots. The last few years the farmer has been rotating between beans and corn but this spring he is converting it to alfalfa. My food plots are currently Alice clover and it doesn't make...

    What are my options.....HELP

The guy I lease my hunting land from called me the other day and asked me not to put in any more food plots if I was going to disc up the ground. He said that if I wanted to do food plots from now on that I would have to plant them no-till. He claims that his ground is in some kind of no till...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Re: Cereal Grains - October 17th Oats/Rye Frosts My oat plot isn't getting grazed much at all, and dispite all the talk that deer love oats I'm not a big believer. I think my rye plot is getting much more attention and I like the fact that I'm going to get more longevity out of it which means...

    Finished my second mount

Good work! I'll point out one thing that is not a real big deal but it's all in the details. The ears stick out too far from the skull and they need to be tight under the main beams. You either used too much clay and they stuck out from the manikin or they are rotated too far back. Nice work...
