Was 108F monday afternoon at my house. And was probably 112F in downtown Ottumwa. Its been around 80F many nights. We have had 40 90F days and 14 days over 100F THIS ABSURD!! Not a drop of rain for 5 weeks
Went down to memphis Mo and the beans look pretty good down there. Ottumwa area is the worst around. This is a very bad drought by iowa standards. But does not compare to texas or SE states in past years. They get droughts every 5 or 6 yrs. IA gets one this bad one this bad every 15-25 years...
Southern IA averages over 4" a month April-sept... The jet stream seems non existant over midwest. Winter was almost ZERO precip... Only a cut off low or two since December have brought any rain, most fronts are dry as a bone. Even warm fronts which usually slam S. IA are dry... Its gonna get...
Dont forget that with the early spring the clovers and alfalfas were green Mar 1st... And they were hitting them hard. They had an extra 30 days of green this spring. I think with the mild winter they are healthy then recent summers, been seeing some really good bucks.
To me this drought is ongoing now for 1 year or since late june 2011, We have had about 15" here at my house for the last 52 weeks. Its only rained over an inch about 5 times the past year. I am amazed how well crops look given the sparse rain and sun and wind. The rains have been timely to say...
I have some truth cam 35s. From 70-80$ night pics have little range. But otherwise take good pics. Worth the money for sure. Duracell D batteries last a long time in fact Ive never killed the batteries. I usually check them at least monthly. They would last all summer out there Im sure.
I agree with you on the radar estimates. Lately Ive got more than they show. The area has 12 months of very dry weather, before last weekend we were sitting at about 12" since the rains ccut off last late june. Those fri sat storms saved us. We have been some timely rains that just get us by. I...
Thanks for the thread. I have been using Muzzy 3 blade 100s. Last year had 3 deer all run less than 60 yards. Just getting tired of adjusting my sight for the muzzys. Also tired of shooting broadheads and destroying targets.
In oct 2010 I shot a doe and its fawn joined another doe and its two fawns right under my stand a bobcat snuck to under my stand and as they passed it passed on the dead does fawn, that fawn about 50lbs put a beating on the cat and ran onto the timber the cat gave up! All within 40 yards of my...
I saw many more 3 leggers on the east coast. Im not exactly sure why. seem shot gunners would do a lot injrues. I am thinking that the yotes get the injured deer here in IA.
Ditto.... I have the same set up.. The local attenna channels are awesome! I get about 40 free channels. Surprises me how many folks dont. Now you can buy a dvr for your anntena local channels. The HD is better than any other source. Espn and hunting channels is the only reason i still have dish.
I would get one that is plastic or rubbber coated on the inside. Many are not and the wind can blow odors right out. That is what I always look for 1st, scent control.
Seeing the same thing here. Most bucks packing. I have only found one fresh shed. Did have 1.5 yr old buck shed an antler right at the cam! Have pics with and without one minute apart.
