    CWD article

Interesting article on cwd from another states perspective. This doesn’t really pertain to Iowa all that much but in MN they took away Antler Point Restrictions and stated they won’t look at moving the gun seasons back because health of the deer is more important...

NRC Committee meeting on March 13th

I would first start with banning all deer feeding and mineral licks. But then again that makes too much sense so why start with the obvious.

    Disappointed in Iowa’s deer classic

The internet ruined shed hunting many, many years ago. And now Facebook has only made it worse. I sure do miss the good ol' days.

    Deer hunting proposals for 2018

As a non resident hunter that hunts public land in zone 9. I really hope they don't increase non residents permits. It has already changed a lot in the last 5 years. Public lands aren't what they use to be and will continue to suffer with the increase in pressure. Too many farms being leased. I...

Iowa DNR Wayne County Confirms CWD with 7 additional CWD positive tests so far from deer in NE

You could be correct. This came from the University of Illinois, agriculture dept. Meanwhile in Minnesota, the 2017 deer season continues, this time for landowners. You can use center fire rifles and don't have to wear orange. After the last 2 years with deer hunting 6 months each year. It's...

    Terrible

Here is an update from a local news source. Over $52,000 has been raised in just a couple days. Not a good situation at all but good to see people coming to help out the family any way that they can...

    Banks 600 deer feeder

I've had a few messages. I would just like to say that I will purchase all new feeder ports for this at a cost of $80. As I stated earlier I am in a cwd zone and one positive was found on our farm in the winter of 2017. I do not want others to go through what We are dealing with here. The...

    Cuddelink

For those of you that are running this system, what kind of cameras are you using? Dual flash, IR or Black Flash? I would typically be using mine along the edge of a field. I know the IR typically don't do well for nighttime pictures with no solid background.

Didn't know it was still deer season.

So the MN cwd results came back. All negatives. That's not good enough for the DNR. There will be a landowner season starting mid February and will go about a month. They don't anticipate using sharpshooters this season. That will all change when the landowner participation is about 2%...

Didn't know it was still deer season.

Last year when it was found in Minnesota they hammered the hell out of the deer. Over 1200 ADULTS killed after the season. Unlimited $2.50 tags, landowners seasons and sharpshooters. In Forestville state park they absolutely massacred the deer. The nearest positive was over 6 miles away from...

Congratulations on a heck of year for you and your family. Those are all bucks of a lifetime. You guys put in so much time with habitat improvements and it is certainly nice to see those who put in the time reap some of the rewards.

    Timber Stand Improvment

I've used garlon4 in Minnesota when the temperature has been below zero. It has worked although I haven't looked at the label to see if there is a recommended temperature.

    Timber Stand Improvment

If you want to chemically kill a tree use Garlon 4 and bark oil. It does not translocate and is very potent to whatever you are trying to kill.

Alright guys, Who's s with me, November 19th, and still grinding this season out

I'm with ya. Just like the past 3 years. I've had some great encounters this time of year but it is definitely tough. Good luck.

Assessment of CWD prion shedding in deer saliva with occupancy modeling

So the lead scientist on TSE fears that cwd may have been created by man. Using scrapie from sheep? Awesome. Kudos to those people. But we haven't learned from that so we are trying to infect monkeys with cwd? Here is a snapshot of what's going on in southern Minnesota where it was first...

Assessment of CWD prion shedding in deer saliva with occupancy modeling

Something I thought of while spending endless hours in the tree. If the prions can remain in the soil for years and can be taken up by plants etc shouldn't we be concerned about the food we are eating? Corn, beans, garden vegetables and fruit?? Obviously there are more prions in an infected...

Had a 125 " 8 come running through yesterday morning. Wasn't 15 seconds later a coyote was hot on his trail. Nose on the ground following the bucks trail.
