Congratulations to both of you. I too spend time in the woods with my daughters, and we are truly fortunate to have girls that are interested in being in the outdoors and spending time with their dads!
Great advice Ishi...sometimes I notice my deer hunting friends (including myself), can take things to the extremes. Setting up lots of restrictions in regards to age, score, etc. I believe for many of us, it is a continuing adventure where we strive to become better hunters and achieve loftier...
I recently downloaded the app for my android system(S6). Like what I see but do not see how to post a reply or start new thread. What am I missing? thanks
I have only great things to say about Spot Hogg, believe they have a few fixed pin models to choose. Very solid, dependable, long lasting product in my opinion
wicked fan
I bought the wicked tough 12 ft. saw at the end of last season. Have not used a lot yet, but really like what I see so far. Folds up compact(about 2.5 ft) enough to pack along if going a long distance through heavy cover yet light(under 4#) and seems very rugged.
There is also products such as Warrant that you can put over emerged soybeans\corn to hold back grasses and weeds. Probably an excellent fit for food plots, but many are restricted use so would need your license to buy and use.
Funny you should suggest the magnus heads. after going out this weekend with my 13 year old girl and getting her a nice gobbler. I got the itch to try a new challenge for myself and ordered the 100 gr. bullheads--hope to get to use them.
Great advice. think the biggest thing time has taught me...
get rid of the tiller and just use a 5'or 6' disk and drag. with your Kubota. May have to hit a couple times but a lot faster and can still grow good food plots. Ground doesn't need to be worked up like a garden and will have more residue on top which reduces erosion and helps to retain...
agree with all central iowa said. Planting all area broadcast I would use about 70# per acre and would "lightly" disk. want seed covered but not any deeper than about an inch. Word of caution, those soybeans feel like getting shot by a BB gun when coming off a broadcast spreader!
No turnips rotting here either as of Saturday. Deer have started eating tops off o(started in last week)and still grazing on rye and clover. Now are probably underwater so will see if deer return and eat again after floods. Hope this year is an outlier on the curve and not a recurring trend
Thanks for the replies fellas...and trapshooter1. The kid has helped me out before around my place and was telling me of his dilemma. Doesn't want to go break the law and get into trouble. Told him I would post the question on this sight as a lot of good knowledgeable people on here, well mostly!
His Dad usually gets the landowner tag from what he told me so assuming that has been done. Looks to me on chart in DNR handbook that Landowner doesn't need hunt license or Habitat stamp. What I still haven't come across is if he would need to have hunter safety to get their landowner tag...
I have a neighbor who wants to hunt shotgun but is 16 and didn't take hunter safety. Is he OK to get their landowner tag and hunt shotgun on their owned land?
hillrunner I've skipped a lot of hunts due to warm weather but I've never skipped a Hunt cause it was to cold
WELL SAID! I myself like the cold breezy days. Best days to get together with a good one. IMHO. I will skip the warmer days with light and variable winds long before a cold snap with...
congratulations on a really nice buck. way to thread the needle! You have done better on public than I am doing on good tract of managed private land. Great to see you to put in the work and effort and get it done!
