Absaroka is solid - have stayed there twice while chasing elk. Whether you stay there or not, make sure you go in the north entrance and visit the boiling river. Prlly less than 5 miles from entrance. Active volcano spewing hot water out right next to the Gardiner river. the most...
Daver gives great advice. the alternative is to get a Savage. I shot 42 grains of smokeless, you can see after the shot, they are deadly accurate (so you could use the same load) & a piece of cake to clean with way less fouling. My 13 year was gun shy 2 years ago until i switched and now he...
nothing wrong with either of those choices but i would return it and get a Savage. Of all the guns i own, easily the easiest to handle, clean & it shoots unbelievably!!
I have two and love them. less cleaning, no smoke, and less kick for kids. drops about 5 inches @ 225 yards. a basic model - black syn & blued is about $600
Everyone is dead on on what socks to use. I still had trouble but finally bought a high quality (Meindl from Cabelas) non-insulated boot and my problems ended. I must just have too hot bloodied feet??
smokeless powder. I only use 42 grains and only drop 5 inches @ 225 yards. I have two friends that clean theirs every other year. I am not that extreme but they are much easier & cleaner to deal with. A base model starts @ about $600. Good Luck!
i had the same issue for years. Finally bought non-insulated, waterproof Meindl's from Cabelas and have had no problems since. Have been in 20 below weather and been comfortable with the right socks. I figured out the insulation was more than my feet could stand. Good luck!
Kaare,
Great job passing him last year. Now you will be rewarded (hopefully) again next year for passing on the 170 this year. Quite a problem to have!!!! Maybe 800 inches in 4 years??? I tip my hat to your effort, skill & drive.

We effectively have 4 different food plots with 10 different products used. My oldest (Jackson) who just turned 10 has been my biggest helper and has put as much or more effort and thought into these plots as I have. He has already killed 3 deer and desperately wants a buck this year...
Re: Had to say my good by's to a dear friend today
Camoup - Your point is well taken. I have been pondering it for over a year as her healthy slips. Even if i wanted to today my wife and 3 little ones would bury me first!!!
Re: Had to say my good by's to a dear friend today..
Sorry to hear that! I have an almost 12 year old lab that is in the same boat. Your story has convinced me to not let her suffer anymore!
