You got it. I split the spike then attach the blade. The first one I made, I forge welded the blade to the spike. Not an easy task as they require different welding temps and 5 hands. The rest I cut a slot in the spike, then insert the blade leaving about a 3/16 gap at the back. I use a wire...
Been real busy the past month and a half or so building knives. Had a run on very large primitive Bowies and some rail road spike knives with blades from files, along with a few basic hunters.
"From The Ashes" This bow was broke in three pieces a couple weeks before turkey season. Fixed the bow and shot my turkey with it.
Another old longbow in the stable.
Out "Stumping" with "The Phoenix". I've rebuilt this bow twice. The first time was putting a hickory backing on it...
Thanks guys!
I should add, no power tools were used in building this bow. I rough shaped it with an axe, then finished up with a drawknife, rasp, file and pocket knife.
I've got another stave I just draw knifed the sap wood from but so far I'm not seeing a bow in it. :(

Bow is 68 inches and 50 lbs. @ 28. Rawhide backed. Shoots great!
A fun and rewarding experience to make.
Thanks guys.................I was surprised when they called awhile back wanting an interview. :o There were some things we talked about that were left out, along with some photos, but overall a good article in my opinion.
Probably 90% of mine through the years have been killed between 10:00 and 2:00. Of course that may not be too scientific because where I hunt it's almost impossible to get set up on them while they are in the roost, so I don't hunt early mornings.
I usually don't hunt evenings because it makes...
UPDATE...........................my last progress post from Feb. 26 had me at 202 lbs. lost. As of this mornings weigh in, I've now lost a total of 235 lbs. :) I'm also starting to eat more. Feeling better every day. :)
One would think that since they are hosted here on IW, everybody could see the pics. :( Here's trying from my photobucket. Let me know if you guys that can't see the other, can see this one.
