Bog Discussion #3 Hunting with Kids

Outstanding info! How do you like the youth HSS? Thinking of getting one for my 9 and 12yo. The rope looks like a good project for this summer as well. One fun family outing for us is to grab some ice cream at Dairy Queen and then head off to country roads with binoculars to view bucks in...

    Mineral question

I bought a bad of mineral off the farmer where I hunt and it has min-max 20-24% calcium butthe phosphorus is only 0.1 %. It has the salt in it as well and is not too expensive, but is the low phosphorus a big issue? I think our forage is pretty good anyhow with all of the crops etc!

    Python cable question

Actually I do try support our small town stores, plus I figured once the shipping got added it would be pretty close. This addiction is getting expensive!!!

    Python cable question

Local hardware says he can order minimum 6 from master lock and have them keyed the same but they will be $20 each, so $120 at the least. You guys think this is good deal?

    Python cable question

Where can I get these that are keyed alike? I am tired of carrying multiple keys and fishing for the right one. Can my existing ones be changed? Generally have picked them up at various hardware stores locally but all were different keys.

    A sad question

My brother is getting divorced. Her latest demand is that all of his hunting gear, guns, bow, deer head, all of it get appraised. It is becoming quite clear she really doesn't want the kids unless they come with $$$ and now she is looking for other places to get him. The kicker is most of the...

    DSLR Cameras

We own a Nikon D40 and just added an 18-200 Tamron lens. We are complete novices and it has taken some killer pics!! Spend your money on the lens and not necessarily megapixels if cost is an issue. If $$ is not a concern then go for it.

    Clover

I have a small wooded plot with leaf cover issue and I have had some success with frost seeding there. Compensated with seeding extra heavy. Seemed to work pretty well.

    What are my options.....HELP

I have done the spray and broadcast with Rye before and it worked fairly well. Timely rain and seeding extra heavy makes a difference.

    Creating cover

Thanks for the tips! Any good suggestions on how to sink them? Can I use any pallets? Bet neighbor guy could get some from work, just don't know how to keep em on the bottom.

    Creating cover

Got a small backyard pond that we co-own with other neighbors, basically a retention pond to prevent flooding. My family is pretty much only ones that fish it much, has bass and bluegill. One neighbor actually feeds the fish day old bread and really fattens them up! Anyhow, was thinking about...

    "Cull deer"

Re: "Cull deer" Now moving out the dominant buck so another can move in, I think that will work. You are doing a hard thing by trying to only kill the old deer, your plan is impressive. Wish our herd could get to the point that I could worry about genetics! Just trying to get the age better...

    "Cull deer"

Scientific study published in QDMA mag showed genetics in free range deer can not be altered through culling. Shoot the deer you like, but don't call it culling.

    muzzy bullets, bigger better?

I am no smart guy with guns but doesn't things like ballistic coefficient cause heavy bullets to fly flatter in some cases? Just asking, thought I read that recently, but at longer distances the limiting factor is me and not the bullet!!
