Re: Land Leased by a IW Member
I don't see land prices going down either. The economy is actually pretty strong right now and it's expected to stay that way into next year. From Fidelity.com market news:

We're burning off 85 acres of brome. We've been waiting for this day since we bought the land 4 years ago. We had it sprayed last fall but the person doing the planting said we should burn as well since we didn't mow before spraying. We have a lot of organic material left on top.
What's an...

many non residents with so- called "big city" money are aleady getting priced out with 2500-3000/acre farm, it happened without any changes.

I agree 100%, we bought our land 4 years ago for $875 an acre. There's no...
Re: Non Res Landowner Permits, may be on the Table
JJohnson, I understand that residents are worried about what would happen if the law was changed. But I just don't buy the argument that as soon as you give tags to nr landowners that all of a sudden there will be a land rush. Iowa land...
Re: Non Res Landowner Permits, may be on the Table
Elkhunter, there are few things the IA DNR does that I wish MI would do. But a lot of what you guys do would actually make my state of MI worse. If you own land in IA you can get 3 buck tags! In MI we're limited to 2 bucks tags, one buck as...
Re: Non Res Landowner Permits, may be on the Table
Daver, I know the issue is very complicated. I usually don't post because most guys aren't going to change their opinion. We've been talking about this issue for a long time and both sides are still making the same points.
Good hunting,

This would be ten times worse than raising the non-resident tags to 9000

Benny ask yourself, who would you rather have for a neighbor? A local outfitter with a 4 or 5 clients every week of the season or a NR landowner...
I received the same email. Actually those numbers are pretty pathetic for Iowa if you count success like he does.
I didn't shoot a buck this year in Iowa but using his system I was somewhere around 1200% successful.

Cornfed, you might want to read the IA regs again. It doesn't say you can't bring a deer back into IA from all of those states listed. Just that those listed states have CWD "areas" within them. As long as you don't hunt in one of these "areas" you can bring the deer back whole.

I work with a guy that drew a bow tag without a point.
Some araes of KS are a lot easier to draw since they went to zone specific tags. I only put in for a point so I'm all set for next year.

I planted this mix last year (Aug. 10th after my corn failed) and it turned out great. The clover is awesome right now and there are deer in the plot almost all day. The deer didn't touch it too much last fall but once December rolled around they hammered it...
Bassbuster, I drew with one point in zone 5 but it looks like a lot of guys didn't draw, with one point. I've been on the other end of the draw as well. 2002 Kansas deer 85% chance- didn't draw. 2004 Iowa Turkey 96% chance- didn't draw.
Tim
Preference Points aren't zone specific. For example, you could apply for a tag in zone 6 for a couple years and not draw. Then apply in a different zone and the points will follow you.

I thought the same thing when they chose the location here in Michigan about 5 years ago. They built in a small town about 15 miles south of Ann Arbor and about 40 miles west of Detroit.
Doesn't matter, the place is packed 24/7. Drive by on a weekday afternoon and the lot is only half full...

No amount of education is going to convince NR landowners to let outsiders on thier property to harvest does...or most resident landowners for that matter

Dbltree, exactly what education are you talking about?
