For my dead patch I think I'll plant purple top turnips in Aug. or Sept. They've been a great attractant for me in past years. Can I still plant them now or do I need to wait?? READ THE LABEL BEFORE SPRAYING!!!
Did the Co-op just sell you attrazine? I'm told they won't sell it to me because I don't have a license. Any advise how how to get it? I'd love to try the stuff.
Nice pics. If you have round up ready beets you can spray with round up or like product. If not, I am unsure if you can spray with anything. Good luck.
Weeds in CIR Swithgrass
Last year I planted CIR and had a great stand.
This year it looks mostly like weeds.
I am unable to apply atrazine.
Should I just let it go and the switch will be fine?
Suggestions?
I am also trying RR sugarbeets. I basically used the same fertilizer program that I do for corn. 150# starter & 150# Eurea/acre tilled in. I put my 1/2 acre patch right in the middle of my 3.5 acre corn field. I also used a hand speader and opened the hole all the way but the flow was very...
Truax drill questions.
I have a truax drill to plant almost everything except corn.
This year I am planting RR sugar beets & Milo. Have you done either of these?
Could you give me some guidance on which box & settings to use?
Do you cover up any holes?
Any info. would be appreciated...
It's pretty easy for me to identify the switch since I drill all mine and you can see the rows.
I probably wouldn't know what to look for if I B-cast it.
The more you mow the better weed control you will have but you obviously have to identify the swithgrass so you know how high to adjust your...
The best switchgrass stands for me have been by using the following plan.
-Mow area mid August
-Spray with RU late Sept.
-Plant in spring with no-till Truax, or similar, drill. Can rent from PF for a nominal fee.
-Spray again with RU 3-5 days after planting.
-Mow approx. 3 times during the...
I have small stands of swithgrass scattered throughout my property ranging from 1-5 acres.
I also have CP-25 as well in addition to my corn, bean & clover plots.
I believe the best thing to do is to diversify your cover and food souces.
I had 5 ft. CIR by Sept. last year. That was my first year also. I think growing conditions were ideal with the rain we got. This year I'm kind of expecting the same but I know my great stands last year may never happen again.
I just had Sprayland in Cedar Rapids put on a foam marker for my 3 pt. 200 gal. sprayer. Cost was $750 but I figured I'd save that in chemical cost by not over spraying.
I'm not sure if they have them for ATV's or not. http://www.sprayland.com
Fall of '06 I mowed my brome in late August, sprayed it with 1.5-2.0 qts. per acre of RU late Sept. before the first hard freeze.
Spring '07 Approx. 2 wks. before planting I hit it with RU again.
Approx. 2 wks. after the 2nd RU application I drilled CIR switch @ 9lbs./acre. When it was approx...
I drive by all these fields that are weedless and can't figure out why my food plots are always so grassy & weedy.
Do I just need to spray RU at the right time?
Any advise is appreciated.
I am planning on building a 20' ish elevated hunting blind to be used this next deer season. I plan on insulating it, putting in plexiglass windows etc.
Does anyone know where to get plans or how to do this?
