A few that made it through gun season...

Have been getting a lot of bucks on 3 trail cameras around my corn plot (Nothing like having the only corn in 2+ miles - too bad we didn't have enough cold weather in late muzzie for it to pay off!). Nothing huge but good to see some nice carryover for next year!

    2006 Doe Harvest

Make it 496. We harvested 11 antlerless in Appanoose county yesterdy but one ended up being a button so 10 more does.

    Could they find you???

My wife and son know where most of my stands are, and I've told my wife if I don't come back to have a GPS search done on my cell phone (which I always carry on vibrate!).

    taking the first shot................

[ QUOTE ] You didnt notice that it had 'the jewels' when you gutted it? [/ QUOTE ] Maybe it was an "antlered" doe Seriously though, I've learned a couple of rules of thumb when it comes to buttons: 1) a lone antlerless deer is almost always a button buck (as noted in a post above) and 2) a...

    trail cam ????

I think $70 is a great buy - they've been $100 all fall at Scheels & Walmart. I've got 3 of them and like them. As noted above, trigger speed is their biggest downfall but if you use over mineral, food or have angled down the trail you can still get lots of pictures.

    Grandson's 1st Deer

Congratulations! I can't wait until my grandson is old enough to take hunting (will be awhile as he's only 4 months!).

Best and worse food plots this year

Paul, Sorry 'bout the RR plot success comment - from your earlier posts I couldn't tell if your plots were overrun by deer or if you had 10 minutes of marble size hail (the results looked similar!) See what I mean... Paul's food plot devastated by deer: Corn devastated by hail...

Best and worse food plots this year

Best: RR ready corn & beans both did great - still have about 80% of 1 corn plot near the house (always the last to get hit) and 30% of the beans left for late season. - First double crop of august seeding of rye in beans (although doesn't seem to be getting used much while there is still...

    Turkey Population Poll

I think numbers are down substantially (50%+) over 3-5 years ago on my farm based upon what I"ve seen bowhunting this year.

    Harvest Data

Online reporting was super easy. I do agree with the split tag suggestions above - kind of a pain to write in the cold although a sharpie marker seemed to work the best.

Truely a once in a life time buck!

Kind of a unique way to harvest a deer!

    Article on Des Moines Register.com

I've often wondered why IA City drops that kind of coin on reducing the herd when bowhunting as proven so effective elsewhere.....

    Antler Restriction in Iowa

Lots of good points made above and I vacillate between whether restrictions would help or hurt. In the end, I do not think regulated restrictions will work and would probably backfire to a degree based upon the primary hunting method in IA gun seasons: the deer drive. In my opinion, a deer...

    November Anterless season

I concur that this season is a bad idea all around.

    Nice 8

Nice buck! I would guess him to be 3.5 years and score about 130? He's got nice g-2's but his brows look short (hart to tell from the angle of this pic). Good luck with him!
